Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

My 90 year old WWII Veteran grandfather has COPD and has an extremely difficult time breathing, is on oxygen, and has been near death twice in the past 3 months. His HVAC unit has a humidifier to make the air more breathable for him. The unit went out, and he had to call for service. The broken part on the HVAC unit turned out to be a valve on the humidifier, which, again, moistens the air and helps with his breathing. We called the supplier about the part, and the valve is $50. The $50 valve was installed by this company, and they proceeded to charge my grandparents $500 for the job. To make it worse, the ENTIRE humidifier unit including valve only costs $150 new. This company came to perform service to a helpless little old couple on a fixed income, and chose to gouge them as hard as possible by charging $500 for the install of a $50 part. I understand that people are in business to make money, and I understand that a company is free to charge whatever they want. However, I also understand that a person's conscience should tell them that you don't take advantage of children, special needs, or elderly. A $200 or $250 bill would probably not even have been questioned, but $500 is absoultely out of line. Avoid this company. If they'll do this to the helpless, they'll do it to you.

The grandfather came by our office on January 8 and requested service on his humidifier.  For the record, He was not on oxygen at the time of his visit.  A certified technician was sent to the home.  The humidifier was found to have one faulty component in addition to one routine maintenance related component.  Once the condition of the humidifier had been evaluated, the grandfather was given three options.  One, replace only the faulty component.  Two, replace the faulty component, as well as, the maintenance related item for safe & proper operation.  Finally, replace the entire humidifier.  Pricing for all options were provided BEFORE and work commenced.  The grandfather approved to proceed with option two.  The work to be performed was written with the corresponding prices on a work order and signed by the grandfather.  The components had to be special ordered and therefore required and second visit to the home to complete the repairs previously authorized.  A third visit was made to the home, at no additional cost, at the grandfather's request to verify the humidifier was working properly.  With all of the necessary visits to the home, the grandfather NEVER complained about the quality of the work or the pricing of the service.

Affordable Heating & Air utilizes upfront pricing.  Upfront pricing is a preprinted pricing guide that our staff utilize for preauthorizations by the client.  There are several advantages to this type of pricing methodology.  To be brief, I'll cover just a few.  First, we are able to provide customers with written, guaranteed repair cost before work begins.  Therefore, you never pay more than you expect, even if the repairs take longer to complete than expected.  The accuser stated in an email to our office, that we should cut people we see need help some slack and make it up on the next guy!  Our company believes that is immoral and unethical!  As I am sure you would agree, especially, if you were the next guy.  Secondly, this type of pricing is fair in regards to the fact that it cannot take into consideration factors such as race, religion, age, ethnicity, economic status, health condition, etc.

I have only spoken with the accuser via email.  I have made several request to speak in person or via telephone.  All request have been denied.

I know this company and the family who runs the company. They are extremely honest and work above and beyond to please and satisfy the customer. The company has a published pricing guide that everyone pays the same price for the same repairs regardless of age, race, religion, ethnicity, economic status, etc.  The gentleman that seems to have the problem (not the vet, but the grandson) has a phone number to Affordable, so why does he not just call to clear everything up instead of hiding behind emails, ripoff reports, BBB, Fox 6 or whoever else.  It's easy to sit behind a keyboard and screen and hide to try to hurt a small business for whatever reasons.  I know that if you called and talked to the owner he would be more than fair to you.  He cannot do repairs for free or discount things because his business would not be there if he did.  He does not "gouge" anyone.

As far as the illusion that Affordable is "gouging" a WWII vet, this sounds like a play on emotions.  It has been noted on several occasions that the Vet has been seen around town with no trouble getting out of a car nor has he had his oxygen machine.  If so many people have noticed this man without assistance of oxygen and have seen him around without significant problems, why is the grandson putting him on his deathbed?

I've seen both sides of the arguement and it seems that Affordable has done everything in it's power to make a customer happy that is not capable of being happy.  He is attacking the company as only he can; hiding while complaining in a way that it's hard for the other side to get their story out of what they have done for the customer.

My suggestion to this individual is to pay for the services that you agreed to and if you are still not satisfied just try to find a more reputible and professional company to do the work to your "free" standards.  Either you'll give up and either pay to get your stuff fixed, you'll be pestering every company that tries to help you or you'll do without.  Today complain about this, tomorrow it'll be something else so you can wiggle out of a bill.

Bottom line, Affordable Heating and Air is a very reputable, honest and professional company and have no reason to treat this man differently than any other customer that they have ever serviced.  This is the only complaint I can find since they began in 2001.
