Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I received a collection letter from Afni saying that I owe $296.12 for a SPRINT account... and that in order to resolve this matter they will accept $148.06.... I have NEVER had any account with SPRINT!!!

I called Afni, my call was answered in seconds. I told them I had never had any account with Sprint, the person verify my last 4 digits of my SS (which was scary) then he asked me if I had live at an address he mentioned and told him that I had NEVER lived at such address. He advice me to go to the police and make a Identity theft report and to provide the police with the address he mentioned, He then told me that he would be sending me a (package) and to fill out all the information requested and to send it back within 30 days.

I am somewhat hesitant to send them MY information. The Tel.# & ZipCode are different from the one's i've seen here.

I Dont know what to do!

This is the actual address on the letter

AFNI

404 Brock Drive

P.O. Box 3517

Bloomington, IL 61702-3517

tel. (866)857-7193

There is a 2nd address:

P.O. Box 20939

Ferndale, MI 48220

Now I'll just have to wait &. see what the (package) contains

He then told me that he would be sending me a (package) and to fill out all the information requested and to send it back within 30 days. =============================== AFNI is a really dirty, bottom-feeder collection agency....don't fill out or sign anything they send to you....Start by sending a request for written validation as I mentioned above. You have this right for validation per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act....

The package is actually a fraud packet. Sounds like you don't owe it and should file fraud with the procedures given. I checked 'em out and they are with the Better Business Bureau.

You need to go to Annualcreditreport.com (NOT freecreditreport... they are a rip off) and get a copy of your report from the big three. If this is listed on your account, you may be a victim of identity theft.

Send them a letter via Certified Mail + Return Receipt stating: Per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, I am requesting: - Written validation of this alleged debt and that said alleged debt is within the statute of limitations - Cease all verbal communications with me about this alleged debt. Read up on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and understand your rights: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_Debt_Collection_Practices_Act
