This is why AFNI is such a detestable collection agency....They have ruined the credit ratings of more innocent people than any other collection agency out there. AFNI bought a bunch of ancient debt that they quickly found out was uncollectable due to the age of the debt and that most of the original debtors had moved. Their solution: Place damaging notations on the credit files of people who have similar names/addresses as the original debtor to basically extort them to pay debts that they don't owe. 1) DO NOT pay AFNI one penny simply to clear your credit files...If you do you will validate the debt as valid and you will own it....They could then keep this paid defaulted debt on your credit files for years. 2) Send a letter via Certified Mail + Return Receipt to Experian stating: Notice of Fair Credit Reporting Act Violation This alleged debt from AFNI that was recently validated is not mine. This frivolous validation of a debt that does not belong to me has ruined my good credit rating. Per the Fair Credit Reporting Act, I am requesting: - written communication between Experian and AFNI that led to validation of this alleged debt - I am requesting signed contracts proving that I own this alleged debt. This letter is has been sent via Certified Mail + Return Receipt and is being time stamped. If I do not receive a response within 30 days of receipt, I will interpret this as a refusal to document the validation of this bogus debt and I will have no choice but to take legal action per my rights under Fair Credit Reporting Act. 3) Send a letter via Certified Mail + Return Receipt to AFNI stating: Your firm has damaged by credit rating with your posting of damaging info on my credit file for a debt that I do not owe. Per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, I am requesting: - written validation of this alleged debt and that said alleged debt is within the statute of limitations. Either validate this alleged debt or remove it from my credit files. If this notation is not removed, I will have no choice by to take legal action per my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I also file reports with the Attorney General of Illinois if this bogus notation is not removed from my credit file

I used to work at Afni. I know exactly what you are talking about, because i used to be one of those people who would call you and tell you that u owed money. Ur not the only one who is in the same situation you are. Half of the accounts I delt with were from years and year ago, as far back as 10 or more. Supposibly, the origional company had the account for 3 months and tried to get in contact with the person to get the amount paid. If a dispute or resolution was made them and just never entered into the system correctly, it was then sent to afni to handle. they treat there employees like s**t and half the time, treat the consumers we were required to call like they were dumb and didnt know what there were talking about and were always wrong. I was glad to leave that company.
