On 9/22/07 we purchased from Alitalia web site, an electronic ticket for our son, for round trip from Krakow to Milan to JFK, departing 9/27/07 and return 10/22/07. The above transaction was completed successfuly and ticket and flight confirmed. Our credit card was charged $774.50. On the afternoon 9/26/07, just a few hours before departure,we confirmed again with Alitalia, the flight and did not learn about any problems with the ticket.

A few hours later, in early morning of 9/27/07 at the Krakow airport our son was told that the electronic ticket was suspended, and they offered to sell him a new, much more expensive one.

It was necessary that he come to NY, and he was alredy enroute to the Krakow airport the day before to make this plane.

A new ticket was issued by the Alitalia attendant for new price.

When we learned the whole story, we checked with our Visa card. There was now problem with payment. We called Alitalia to complain about the double tickets. We were told us to fax or mail Alitalia Customer Services-Claims.

We faxed our complaint, but never got a reply.

In the meantime our Visa was charged but the charge for second ticket did not show up. We were relieved and thought our complaint was resolved, but we were wrong. We were suprised to see on our credit card statement for the transactions betwen 10/13-11/12 the Alitalia charge for the ticket. This time $932.91. We called our credit card company and disputed the transaction since we paid for ticket several month ago. But the story has not ended. On 1/10/08 Alitalia credited our visa for the first ticket $774.50.

Visa told us we cannot dispute the credit, but we worry about new charges showing up from one card to another and we certainly do not like to pay any penny more than the price for the first ticket. Even though there were cheaper airlines, we choose Alitalia, but would not have done so if we knew what they were going to charge.

That's why we think it's ripoff, big time. They sold us an eticket then they suspended that ticket and sold a new one for a higher price.

Be careful dealing with Alitalia.
