My husband and I decided to move from Myrtle Beach to Utah, to be close to our family and having just experienced bankruptcy. We are both elderly. All State Van Lines originaly quoted us $6,112.96. The movers changed our moving date which cost us an extra $500.00. They insisted on using their boxes and not the regulation shipping boxes we had. They also charged us for the extra labor.
As time progressed and changes were made we kept asking what the total costs would be. It fell on deaf ears, we also asked about the cost of tariffs, etc. We became quite concerned (being on a limited budget). They had no answer and blatantly evaded the question. They never contacted us prior to delivery regarding cost.
On the date of delivery they presented us with a $12,975.19 bill, with a balance due of $9,500. (if we didn't pay it they threatened to put our furniture in storage. We were pressured for hours. All we had in the world was 3,500, which we immediatly gave them and are now on a payment plan for the remainder.
Our daughter and son have been providing food and our new landlord has delayed our rent payment. We are both on social security and have no jobs at present.
We are using our credit card for the remainder. They just withdrew $500.00. We owe them $2,700.00; Can we not pay this.
