I am a former Avon rep. I had an outstanding bill, which I know that I owe. I have no problem paying the bill because I know I owe it. However, due to financial situation arising, I didnt have the money to pay Avon. I pay my bills, but Avon wasnt high on my priority list.

I have received calls a couple times a week from this company. I have received letters. The original balance was $289. I received a letter stating all I needed to pay was $173, but because I didnt have the money I couldnt act on it.

I received a call from a rep in which I spoke to him. He offered me the same deal, but he stated they never sent me a letter offerering that deal. He said the only way I could take advantage of that was by mailing him 5 equal monthly payments on postdated checks. i told him i didn't trust that system of post dating checks and I just didnt have the money.

I received more calls after that. Then I started receiving calls from another employee there who started talking about legal action. One day my 9 year old answered the phone and I wasnt home, so the rep told him to take a message. The message was that if I didnt respond by 12 on the next day, legal action would be taken. My 9 year old wrote this whole message down with the guy's name and phone number. I never responded.

Last night I received a call from someone who pretended to personally know me named Mona. I told her i was offered a settlement of $173, she said the person that offered me that was wrong. The lowest she could go was $250.

After confusing herself time and time again, she stated that I needed to mail these postdated checks in by 1/27, with a dated check for 2/28. I needed to send it priority and get a confirmation #.

She told me once i got the confirmation number to call her at her extension and give her the conf #. She gave me the address on Westheimer in Houston, TX. When i asked for her last name or employee id, she said it was her extension.

She then told me that if someone else tried to call me and make a deal to tell them that I had already dealt with her. I asked her why would somebody else call me if she was updating my records. she didnt have a response. that didnt sit right with me.

She tried being really friendly, but i think it was more sneaky.

I did see on BBB that they dont have a good rep. So, i doubt i will send the money to them. I'll let her call me again and see what happens.

Tell them to validate by . What the money you say I owe is for; Explain and show me how you calculated what you say I owe; Provide me with copies of any papers that show I agreed to pay what you say I owe; Provide a verification or copy of any judgment if applicable; Identify the original creditor; Prove the Statute of Limitations has not expired on this account Show me that you are licensed to collect in my state Provide me with your license numbers and Registered Agent 1. NEVER talk to a collection agency on the phone. Period. 2. Keep good records. This can be the difference between a good and bad settlement. Don't expect them to remember you or what you agreed upon. 3. Send all correspondence via registered mail, receipt requested and put the registered mail number ON THE LETTER. DO NOT SIGN THE LETTER TYPE YOUR NAME 4. Keep a copy of every letter you send. 5. Penalties and extra interest are typically fictious amounts of money added on by the collection agency to pad their profits. Sometimes as much as to 50% of the debt or more claimed to be owed by a collection agency consisting of interest and fees. This is illegal, every state has usery laws (which dictate the maximum interests allowed to be charged. That is except North Dakota. There are no such laws which is why most credit card companies incorporate there.) Junk debt buyer pay anywhere from 1 cent to 7 cents on the dollar, there is no way there is this much interest. 6. Time is on your side. As time passes, the creditors will likely stop calling and the debt will be filed away for future attention or until the SOL runs out ..
