November 3, 2004

Two weeks prior to June 30, 2004, I called ALLSTATE MOVING& STORAGE to get a price quote on moving 11 boxes from Hyattsville, MD to Bakersfield, CA. I agreed to total of $750.00 and Ms. Tina told me the maximum amount of time for the move would be 2-3 weeks total. The following week, I made a $100.00 deposit to one of the co-workers, Ms. Tina and scheduled for my 11 boxes to be picked up on June 30, 2004 at 8:30am.

ALLSTATE MOVING & STORAGE came to pick up my 11 boxes on June 30, 2004, where I paid for the remaining balance and gave the movers an additional $50.00 gratuity making a grand total of $800.00 paid to ALLSTATE MOVING & STORAGE.

As I was getting ready to relocate to California on July 13, 2004, I called ALLSTATE MOVING & STORAGE on July 12, 2004 to find out the status of the move. I spoke to Ms. Tina and she told me that they could not find a driver the week of June 30 and my boxes just got shipped earlier that day. I was very upset because originally with the price quote that was given to me, I asked ALLSTATE MOVING & STORAGE if they had their own moving trucks because I did not want to go through a middle man company. I made it clear that I wanted ALLSTATE MOVING & STORAGE to move my boxes with their own trucks. Ms. Tina told me she was sorry for the mix up and my boxes should get to Bakersfield, CA the following week of July 19-23.

On July 20, 2004, a driver from ALLSTATE called me to get directions to my apartment in Bakersfield. He informed me that he was about 1 hour outside of Bakersfield and he would be delivering my boxes. An hour later, the driver and his partner made it to my apartment. They searched their truck and could not locate any of my 11 boxes. I then called ALLSTATE MOVING & STORAGE where I spoke to Ms. Tina and Mr. Omega about the current dilemma. They told me that the drivers were responsible and that they were going to try to locate where my boxes were.

The following day, I called ALLSTATE MOVING & STORAGE and I spoke to both Ms. Tina and Mr. Omega, the manager of the store. They both told me that they were still in the process of locating my boxes and I should be patient. Mr. Omega told me he would call me back as soon as my boxes were located.

I waited for a week and called Mr. Omega back. He told me that my boxes were located to be in one of their storage facilities in New Mexico. He told me that it would take about another 2 weeks for my boxes to get to Bakersfield, CA. I then took extra precaution and called my father to go to ALLSTATE MOVING & STORAGE and speak with Mr. Omega. My father told me that Mr. Omega said my boxes should get to me no later than August 4, 2004.

August 4 came and went, so on August 5, 2004, I called ALLSTATE MOVING & STORAGE. I asked to speak to Mr. Omega or Tina. I was put on hold and eventually hung up on. I called back and it was the same pattern. I then called from another phone asking to speak to Mr. Omega. He told me that my boxes should get to me by the following week.

Since September 2004, I've called ALLSTATE MOVING & STORAGE and I've been getting the same answer on when my boxes will be delivered. It is always the following week. I've asked for my money back and the response I would get would be for either Tina or Omega to hang up on me and disconnect their phones. I've been extremely patient with ALLSTATE MOVING & STORAGE, but that has not changed the way they have treated me. Not once has ALLSTATE MOVING & STORAGE called me to let me know the status of my shipment or what was being done to ship my boxes. If I never called them, they would have never tried to contact me.

ALLSTATE MOVING & STORAGE purposely took my goods without any intention of delivering them to me.

I'm sorry to hear about what happened. My suggestion is that you contact DOT, and let the moving company know that you are going to contact them. Also, if you paid by CC contact your CC company so that you can get your money back. And as a last resort, contact a lawyer. You hear about this type of crap ALL the time, especially in the DC area, there are so many over night moving companies. But I let the DOT know about this. Hope this helps
