During the phone (interview) the Altig Company Representative was dodging questions and set up an interview. Well, she signed up for an interview and when she got there the interviewer was short, rude, pushy and attempted to dodge questions she had about the possible job. She was told to examine their website before the interview and even though she did there was nothing there exactly stating which job she was being offered. To get to the point the interviewer was pushy rude and made her feel like a peice of meat. She found out the job was for sales and based soley on commission. I would suggest approaching this company very carefully and make sure to ask a lot of questions. Apparently they don't like it when their interviewees ask questions. Peter Long Lake, Minnesota

I too was suckered into an interview with this shady company...

Hello,
I was researching today to see if anyone had a similar experiance with this absolute joke of a company. Mostly because I felt embarrassed that I was a suckered into an interview and lost an entire 2 1/2 hours of my life to these scammers!

I too had posted my resume on monster.com and then recieved several emails from this company all of which ended up in my bulk / spam box (which should tell you something right there)
All you had to do was click the link to be considered for this mysterious job with a company called Torch Mark. Of course I clicked and was only directed to a page saying I would be hearing from them soon. No website no explanation. I thought whatever and forgot about it.
Sometime later I got a call from Ashley in the Huntington Beach office.

I was excited because it was so close to my home. But when I got there it was a tiny shady looking little office that basically looked they had quickly moved just the previous night, for some reason it really creeped me out. There were several people there filing out a questionere on clipboards. It seemed odd because we were all different types of people of all ages and I couldn't figure out what kind of job this was for.To me the thing that came to my mind was "cattle call". After my first interview I was told I had passed and to wait an hour because surprise the district VP was here and will be speaking. When I got to the room to wait Surprise again everyone I had seen previously in the poor excuse they had for a lobby was also chosen to speak to the VP. I was beginning to think that if you were a monkey they would pass you along.

As soon as the geeky guy who claimed to be making 6 figures started his speach I knew this wasnt for me. I should have left but I thought it would be rude. He threw in all the key words and phrases and if I didn't know better I would have been impressed. He basically made it sound like all of the teamsters and Jimmy Hoffa's son himself ran or endrossed this company.

I had stated from the beginning that I wanted an administrative assistant job. I was told over the phone that was what they were looking for. I was lied to. Did they really think I would agree to go door to door and sell what in my opinion is bogas insurance? Whatever!!

After the hour long pitch, Ashley retrieved me from the room and asked me what I thought. I left saying I'm not a salesman and not interested. I heard Someone else say I'm outta here. But every body else stayed!! Many even seemed extremleyy excited. I couldn't believe it. I now know after reading this that my intial feelings ere right. I truly feel sorry for the poor people that stayed. I do hope at least some of them have come to there senses. Or who kows maybe their makin $$ 6 figures as I type, but I highly doubt it.

I'm wondering if monster.com should be made aware of this shady company. Or maybe they don't care. I'm just glad someone is reporting this company!!

By the way just noticed today (a week and a half later) on my caller ID two calls from Altig, but no messages left. HMMMM? I wonder what they wanted.

Anyway thanks for giving me the chance to vent.

Dear Moby:

I am glad you still remember me, whoa! I feel flattered.

You can say whatever you want about your success... if life had tought me something, is that real successful people RARELY brag about their accomplishments, so I think everyone gets the picture about you.

Either way, what can we expect to hear from a bragging insurance salesman? would you believe one?

ALTIG--A STUPID RIP-OFF COMPANY

Here is my story before I defend my self of how rip-off this company is. So I get an email, on Friday, September 15, 2006 stating that my resume was forwarded to a recruiting officer at altig and if I could call him or her back at a given number. Unfortunately I couldn't open the email till Saturday, so I called the individual back. It rang a couple of times then went to an answering machine.

Fine! I called back a second time about 10mins after and again I went to an answering machine, but this time the answering machine was full. The best part of all this (at that time I didn't realize) is that the message wasn't professional, but was a ready made message that stated, " you have reach _____ please leave a message after the tone."

As I continued through out the day blinded by the fact that someone found me instead of me searching. I ended up sending an email giving my number to call me back at. So on Monday morning I get a call from, a recruiting officer. She said "can I please talk to me" I responded "speaking". Her next question was "are you currently employed?" quickly I replied with "yes I am!" I was assuming the next question was with whom are you employed with, but instead she asked me questions such as what I like about my company why I don't like it and so on.

Finally, she said well I would like to set up a personal interview with you. I was excited that I passed the phone interview. Not thinking that I had no vehicle and that I had to be on the bus for almost 1 and half hours I started to get ready. As I was in the shower I decided to research the company, so I went on the website which was very well organized (but not professional), well detailed. So I read every bit of information on the site and finally realized I was making a good decision. As I continued to get ready I though some more about the whole call and, for some odd reason this interview was making me think over again and again. Then it finally clicked, and I asked my self what am I getting into. Here is what I realized;

-On my resume my phone number is listed, so why did they ask for my number?
-Even if they did surpass that part, on my resume it also stated that I was currently employed.
-Then I was asked if I was ever in a sales situation that dealt with clients, well on my resume it states that I worked in a restaurant, office depot, and currently at a cellular depot, I don't think it can get anymore sales then that.
-Next I was asked a question and interrupted before I even answered, especially this one question, she asks what are your three main traits that would make you suitable in a sales environment? I answered patience and I paused for a bit to think and she answered those three are very important to succeed. But I only stated one
-Here is the best of all in the background there was a sound off a keyboard typing and incredible speeds, even when I didn't talk or there was silence.
-Finally, I was not qualified for this position at all, I am a B.S.C Computer Science, and have no idea about insurance.

I would like to say a few things about ALTIG, please guys change your approach, everyone knows you guys didn't view anyone's resume. Secondly I don't know who your web designer is but tell him to use proper HTML script and not FrontPage. Professional companies have professional websites. Finally make sure you listen to what the person you are interviewing has to say.

Moby or Max or Tim or whoever,
I worked there for a year. I made it to the top. And I left for 3 reasons...Zophin is a bad leader who doesn't care about anyone but himself, I was tired of going house to house, and I was tired of the crappy contract that they AIL gives you.

AIL's 25-65% levels are pathetic. If you have been in the spotlight then you should consider this...You earned every penny of that ALP, therefore you should keep every penny of it. Another words why are you wasting your time with AIL when someone of your skills should be collecting 80-125%. You would instantly give your self a 50% raise instead of waiting for the next 2.5% raise at American Income. Those are facts. I know because I left and when I write 10k in a month, I know that I can expect 10k in checks.

Phil (but not my real name either)

P.S. I would venture to say that Jay from little compton isn't really from little compton and probably isn't really named jay. My guess is that he can't stand Zophin Like the rest of us. Do you realize that and entire Rhode Island office quit on him within one months time. That's a fact!

Phil your posts are slowly becoming as intelligent as Frank's. If I posted my advance reports in this forum, 2 things would happen. First, all the sceptics would attend the group the next day; Second, all you proven failures would take just that little bit of personal info on those reports and egg my house. That is the mentality of the failing posters of the famous ripoffreport.com.

My favorite is one of Jay's posts, you know the guy from Little Compton RI who met the evil wizard David Zophin. He describes his experience with the interview process and how shady it was, yet he never moved forward with the hiring. That means his experience with AIL consisted of maybe 2 hours of his time wasted. Yet he has so much passion for this forum and bashing AIL. He says "I answered the E-mail went down for the interview and the rest is history..." WHAT HISTORY!! FRIGGIN' PUKE!!

This is the overall mentality of the negative posters: no life, too much time to kill.

Hey Phil you're a pretty smart guy (at least I thought you were). I have a little project for you. Check out next month's edition of Spotlight and try to figure out who I am, that should replace your advance report request. (hint: my name has been in every single edition since February).

Have fun bro!

I work for the #1 category 2 SGA in the company who takes care of his agents on a level that is unsurpassed. My agency has a 60% 6 month new agent retention rate which is ridiculously high. We jumped from 14 agents in November '05 to 33 agents in August '06.

When recruiting new agents, there is no smoke and mirrors, there is no lying, and there are no tales of how everyone succeeds. Every single person, from the 1st interview, to the group, to the final interview, are told very clearly what is expected of them. The hours per day they will be required to work, the days of the week we operate, how we obtain and distribute leads, and the way we call on leads to set up appts.

The percentage of Americans earning 100k a year is less than 5%. What that means, is in order to earn that kind of cash you better be driven, hard-working, willing to sacrifice and WILLING TO TAKE A RISK! It ain't easy folks, it's friggin' hard, if your looking for easy money, don't bother showing up. When I sat in the group back in '05 I was sold...hard. I looked at the information and products and said to myself, 'this is it man, this is my future'. I work my butt off 7 days a week sometimes 16 hours in a day, and my heart is in it every step of the way. I jump out bed each morning when my alarm goes off and thank god i'm alive and am able to drive to an office where I truly love to be.

My job is also vitally important. Over the course of 10 months I have helped my clients file countless $100 ER claims, but there are 2 that truly make this job worth loving. One family's husband, who is the main breadwinner, spent over a month in the hospital and received $6600 from AIL. The other was a family living in a high crime area who's 17 year old son was shot to death, AIL paid the funeral home exactly how we outline it when presenting FOC, and a check for the balance was paid to the family. total death claim was over $25,000. The father insisted I see other family members to enroll them, and I did.

**Special note to Phil, the malpractice insurance doctor: That certificate is not just a piece of paper, it is a legal promissory note.

The point is folks, don't be afraid. If your dream is going to college, graduating, then jumping into the work force to earn 30-70k, then by all means do it. But if your entrepreneurial, ambitious and want more than the average american, try life insurance sales, 2nd highest income per capita in America. #1 is professional athletes. I can't vouch for any other companies, but after almost 1 year with AIL, I would tell any member of my family or any one of my closest friends to give it a shot.

Good luck to you all!

Altig international I to had a shady interview

#12Consumer Comment

Tue, September 05, 2006

Hello,

My name is Lisa I to had an unusual runin with altig in brooklyn park.

My was a tad different first being that i did have an open monster ad and though i requested no sales postions sometimes monster sends them anyway but altig did contact me.

and two because i canceled my interview after i googled the company and found out what they did and also saw the rip off reports.

There are a few issues i had one being altig was not offering the positions they contacted me for which i find highly unethical but im sure not in any way illegal.

I was told they had a customer service opening she did ask me the odd questions about managment and training others which i did not find that strange at the time.

She was very smooth and it did not seem in any way that there was something not right and she did not in any way avoid my questions about the company but i do think maybe i was not asking hard questions. contrary to some of the reports i saw.

However when i did call her to cancel,
I made it very clear that i was in no way looking for a sales job.

At that point she did turn kinda salta and told me that there were two openings and one was sales but the other was HR (which i have not done and most likely not qualified for)

And when she first contacted me she told me flat out the job would be "cordinating benifits for union workers."" so you would be helping them by explaining their options and answering any questions they might have."

So clearly she was porposefully not being truthfull with me and even had i been interested in the REAL job they were offering would not accept that kind of deception!

I am sure there are people who will have something to say about this so i will cut you off
by saying this.

I did not go to the interview or get hired by altig.

So i can not and did not comment on their bussiness practices nor weather or not the product

Is valid and standard or above. All i am commenting on is their interview and hiring practices.

And for everyone the only reason i decided to write this comment is something i was most upset about, The woman who contacted me for altig sent me an interview comfirmation which had an attachment that i opened thinking it was directions it was not in fact it was video of Porn!

No i am not kidding i still have the email.
Seeing this i was very disheartened and that lead me to google the company in the start.
right away i thought well this is a scam and saw
It was a real company i was still willing to give them a chance. which is why i called her to confirm if it was sales.

I can't say if this was a mistake on her part or maybe someone else is messing with their mail.
But that is what i got from her email representing altig !

SO that is my heads up comment rebuttle on altig.

Here is my letter to the recruiter who called me? I thought it was pretty funny.

Dear Sean.

Did you read my resume? I know you didn't. If you did you would know that I sell real insurance. Come on man, your offer is total bullshit. Today I pullled in an agent of record for $2700/mo.prem. on a group health plan. I sell mother f**king insurance. You obviously did not read my resume. You should be ashamed of yourself for trying to waste my time.

I asked you for some product information. You gave me some high pressure recruiting tacticts. Once again you did not read my res. I went to business school, dumbf**k. HR 101. I could sell more insurance riding a donkey, than you will in a whole lifetime.

Sean, you are a liar. Can we say MegaLifer? You are fleecing amercicans, ruining lives with your false promises and inferior products.

I wish I could meet you so I could kick you in the nuts, staple an American Flag to your a*s, and mail you to Iraq.

Go have sex with your mother.

I really want to know what your union connection is? I don't think you have one.

Sure you what you say about being successful is very true, but you have ignored the moral and ethical delema implied in the posting. I will spell it out for you.

Is it moral or ethical line your pockets based on misrepresentation of fact, false pretenses, or high pressure sales? Ok Forget the products,Is it ok to use these for hiring practices?

Is a Four year term good for a 50 yr old?, no way but I guess that is what ai would sell because thats what AI has got?

I really think you and AI should be ashamed of youselves for not making your intentions clear, and setting expectations.

I sold a plan last month $2600 first year commission. Now, Tell Me, with the world listening , Can AI top that?

I even left the company for 4 years to start my own brokerage only coming to realize that if I wanted to help develop people on a large scale it was not going to happen as an independent broker, so I came back to AIL, where I was still getting renewals from even after I left). The reality is that there are negative environments around the country, but it comes SOLEY from the management. American Income offers a great business opportunity for those who understand what it truly takes to be a business owner.

I make this statement because people get paid what they are worth, not what they feel they deserve. I have made over $100K a year for several years and have renewals coming in consistently, but that is because I treat this as my own business. I take care of my clients and take care of those I work with. Unfortunately not all new agents are taught this by everyone in the company and for those of you out there who have experienced a negative situation with AIL I apologize. But be honest with the situation and realize that it was the result of the management you were working under and not the company itself.

In response to the company being a "pyramid scheme", if you understand where pyramids come from, they all come from the insurance industry. The difference with an insurance company and a pyramid is that in a pyramid you can never rise above your boss, while in an insurance company you can. This is a fact as I have 2 gentlemen that I hired as rookie agents and now only 5 years later, both of them have become the SGA's in New York. I do not get ANY benefit from their growth financially, but I get tremendous pleasure in seeing those who take what I have taught them and reach levels they did not believe possible.

So if you are taught the business properly and understand that you are a business owner and not an employee, you will see the results I have experienced. But if you wait for things to happen, you will end up like others on this board that simply complains because they were not truly willing to do what it takes to be successful. I look forward to any comments.

The reason I initially reported this is because I wanted to help other people, by giving them a heads up as to what happened. I figured this was a good way to do it by saving them time. If I was out looking for a job and I got a phone call like this and I went to the interview and was treated in the horrible fashion my girlfriend was I would have walked out. I was just letting others know our opinion so they wouldn't waste their time like my girlfriend did. I believe a career shouldn't have to be sold to me, I believe it should be offered to you.

Recruiting Process Explained

#17UPDATE EX-employee responds

Sun, February 12, 2006

I used to be a "recruiter" for Altig International. The following is an explanation of the recruiting pipeline, you will find many similarities with other sales companies, from insurance to air filters they all use some of these methods to find the true "sales" oriented people. Any agent can attest to the process I will lay out for you because he/she went through it. I wont get into what happens after you are hired because I wouldn't be the person to best describe it to you. Here is the process...

I would scan hundreds of resumes a day not being selective as to who or what you did. All I really needed was your phone number and my script. I would call you and make it sound like you submitted your resume through Hot Jobs or Monster with my crafty words. You would of course be excited to hear from a prospective employer as I asked you tell me about your work history. I didn't really care what your response was. I was just letting you talk to build a feeling inside you of self interest. After a quick script about the company, I would use key words that would evoke a positive emotional response in you. Such as "Management" and "Rapid advancement" As you were high I would bring you down by letting you know that I had to interview you at a set time with no flexibilty in it whatsoever. If you wanted a job you would find a way to make it and I had control over your emotions from the start. When and if you arrived, I would make you fill out a "candidate profile" and then you would wait no matter if you were early or late. Once inside my office the emotional rollercoaster continued. We would have small talk about the weather or traffic or a parking space, then would come the questions. For every easy question you got, I would throw you a hard question. For every answer you would feel like I was judging you, but I wasn't. It was all about bringing you up and then taking you down. This is the same strategy used in boot camp, break you down and build you up only to break you down again. After 10 minutes of you feeling like you were doing great, I would go into a few lines about the company, where we were, where we were going, what we did. But NEVER telling you what you would be doing. If you asked the question "what will I be doing?" my response was "all your questions will be answered later in the interview process." But suprisingly most DIDNT ask that obvious question. YOU thought your dreams had come true, you were in a nice big office talking about a management position with a Fortune 500 company and all you ever did was work the drive-thru or cash register. So naturally I had to bring you down. "I have several other interviews and I will be making phone calls later to invite the best of the best to our second interview tomorrow". So when you left you were hoping that I called you because you are under my control. Of course 80% of the people that showed, I would invite. At this point it was all a numbers game for me. Get 30 to show for the first, invite 25 so that MAYBE 18 show up to the second then maybe 10 come in for a final, we "hire" 7 and maybe 3 make it but to me if 3 people per week made it that was a BIG BONUS, I'm talking thousands of dollars here. Your big day was here, maybe you drove for 3 hours or took a day off or maybe took your lunch break thinking you could squeeze it in. You would meet at the office again and notice that the competition was very high-let the emotions begin to wax and wane again. You would hear a presentation on who we were, that we served union families(we could service anyone actually that was just our little secret) you would be shown that the income had great potential(and it does) and you would be making a load of money in a year's time(and you can) and if you were so motivated you could be a manager someday(thats where the money's at). There is always a cost to get your insurance licenses. Depending on your state it can be anywhere from 200 to 1200 dollars(paid by you and not reimbursed) if fact you will make it back in no time. I would bring you into my office one by one in a specific order(I usually called the best candidate in last, again to play the heart strings) and asked if I thought it was right for you. You usually had a load of questions right? I didn't answer them. But suggested that you went home and discussed the position with your family(you really didnt have any info to discuss) I feel most guily about this part of the process. I am asking you to try and sell this to your wife or husband or parents and we haven't even really told you what the heck is going on. I would schedule a time for you to come in and ask you to write your questions down(that way we can get those out of the way first thing tomorrow)-Final interview-Now this is all so quick right? I am asking you to make a serious life changing move in all but 3 days time. Any good salesman will tell you the easiest sale comes from the people when they are at their weakest mental state also known as when their EMOTIONS control their decision making rather than their logic. So the game continues. This time your interview is with another recruiter or an actual manager within the branch(just to add pressure) I used to refer to it as "bad cop, good cop". You were used to me, I made you feel good, I was on your side. The manager was the bad cop, he/she asked the very hard questions such as you understand this job takes dedication, no more weekends or holidays with family because "thats when we work". If you understood that and were willing to do it great...oh and you were asked to go outside and wait while we talked. So at this point most people began to literally sweat. After a few long minutes you were called back in and offered a "job". As long as you were willing to work as 1099 and give up your family time, You were in. From there you had to get licensed($200-$1200 up front) and would have to go about a month without pay(which you already said was just fine with you).

Most people dropped out in the first month. A few would make it to "code" which meant licensed and talking to potential clients in their homes after memorizing a pages long script and passing all the required exams. But I was doing the same thing you went through all over again. Every week, every month, all year long.

The opportunity is there to very, very sucessful but the honest truth is not many people make it. Every person in senior management I worked with was very professional and very successful. Sure they were, they had all of those people who risked destroying their lives by working for this company still paying them(the payments from the clients kept coming in and the managers got the reassignments). Most of the managers that were around for a few years WERE easily making 100k plus. Yes they still are. Partially from their hard work, partially from the masses that have come and gone.

Lastly, I want to apologize to all the people that I brought in but couldn't be sucessful and who were manipulated into thinking that they had found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Why did you write this?

Since you were not at the interview, your girlfriend should have been the one to write this report. I have never heard of this company so what you wrote may be 100 percent correct, but I think your g-friend should have been the one to complain.
