I had used Amanda's Pet Sitting in the past, and erroneously was led to believe that she was bonded and insured. Amanda was hired again recently to make one daily visit for 3 consecutive days to care for an elderly indoor house cat. Unfortunately, I had not read the warnings posted in 2008, as I had used her services earlier in the year.

Although I left in the morning on day 1, and was returning on day 3, I paid her for 3 days so that the cat would not have to be completely alone for so long. I asked that she bring in the morning newspaper, feed the cat and give him fresh water and clean the litter box. I returned in the early evening of day 3, to find the morning paper in the driveway (we have had some criminal mischief in our neighborhood and it was very important to me that the newspaper be removed from the driveway). The dry food was in an automatic feeder, so the cat still had food. The water is filtered and dispensed from an electric fountain, which was nearly empty and spitting air through the filter only. The litter box was completely full, with feces and urine of at least two to three full days of use.

Amanda responded to my e-mail inquiry by feigning that she was utterly shocked to receive my message. She insisted that she had been at the house 12 hours before our return, had cleaned the litter box, and that the cat had plenty of food and water. She claims that the newspaper must have been delivered late, or that she may have parked over it and not noticed its bright orange plastic wrapping as she arrived or departed. She offered to refund the rate for one day so that I would not believe that she had neglected my poor old cat. I regret that I trusted her and have incurred the additional expense of having all of the locks re-keyed.

This fraudulent conduct MUST be reported to the Arizona Attorney General Fraud Division, which can be done online or by mail. The only chance of shutting her down is if the state is willing to prosecute her criminally.

Her website claims that she is a member of Pet Sitters International, but I was unable to find any listing for her business. Her business is not listed with the Arizona Corporation Commission. In the future, I will only use the services of a pet sitter who can provide proof of being bonded and insured. I feel terrible that my poor cat was victimized by her neglect. Apparently, Amanda's Pet Sitting has become so notorious as a result of these ripoff.com reports that an unrelated pet sitting business in another state has been forced to change the name of her business so that she will not be associated with this fraud.

Amanda has declined to respond to any of the ripoff.com reports, or the complaints forwarded to her from the Better Business Bureau (of which she is not a member). She simply denies any wrongdoing to her (former) customers and moves on to the next victims. Shame on you, Amanda. She gives a bad name to the legitimate and caring pet sitting business operators.
