Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My furnace quit working and American Home Shield furnace guy said it is totally burnt up,(on the outside too) with an 1/8 inch of soot covering it and we're lucky the house didn't burn to the ground with us in it as it had been burning for a long time evidently.

The furnace is in a crawl space where I can't see it and my husband is handicapped, the victim of 3 strokes. The furnace guy said I could expect AHS to give me the run around about having the furnace cleaned (not replaced). He told me that if it was his furnace he would never trust it again.

He also told me that he would not do the work (clean it) for fear of liability. Now this is their guy telling me this! Sure enough, today AHS told me to get it cleaned and then they'll take a look at it.

Why should I have to pay approx. $500 to have a burnt up furnace cleaned? I think they are looking for an excuse not to put in a new one.

If they are fishing for clues, then they should be the ones to pay for the searching, don't you think? They did forward my claim to their research department but only after I told them that this is January, I have no heat or air conditioning (ac is tied to the furnace) and I have a stroke victim here who needs even temperatures or runs the risk of having another stoke due to getting too hot or too cold.

I also told AHS that why wait to sue them after my house burns to the ground (since I might go down with it) and that I will sue now (while I'm alive to do it) instead. I'll talk to the research dept. tomarrow and keep you posted. As soon as possible, I'm crawling up in the crawl space and taking a picture of my burnt furnace. Help, I need a good consumer attorney here.

New reason from AHS not to fix my furnace

I finally got through to their "Research" department after calling every 15 minutes and getting voice mail. Today's excuse was that my furnace caught fire and fire is not covered. I mentioned that no where in the technician's report did the word "fire" appear but since I'm the one who called it a "fire" that's enough for them to use the fire excuse. I tried crawling up in the attic last night to see the damage but couldn't get back to the furnace. Guess I'll get a second opinion but giving up on American Home Shield. They beat me down so I'm giving up! Better go get another load of fire wood today.
