This is a horrible company to work with. While shopping around for mortgages we started at Lending Tree. We found American Mortgage Express Corp through them and began speaking with a loan officer. After speaking with several local realtors they all suggested that online banks are not the best way to go and suggested using a local lender. We had just begun the application process with AMX, sending the required documents and than being told more and more were required before sending the loan to processing. The financial advice we were getting from our loan officer at AMX didn't seem to be the best and we ended up deciding to go with the local mortgage company. We cancelled the appraisal before the appraiser went out.
About a week later we were left a nasty voicemail from our loan officer at AMX saying he is still going to charge us the application fee ($295) and the appraiser was still sent out despite our cancelling so he is charging our credit card for that as well ($345). This loan never even went beyond faxing a few documents, a good faith estimate was never produced and the loan was never even sent to processing or underwriting. Our loan officer said there is absolutely nothing he can do as that is their policy. He sent the appraiser out knowing we cancelled. I am extrememly angry and have contacted the BBB. If you are thinking of using this company...DON'T! They demand money up front and still charged us just because they could knowing we weren't using their services.

Today I got a check for $295 to refund the amount of the application fee. They also sent along the appraisal report, they claim they did not know it was cancelled and apparently the former owner let the appraiser in. So, I am happy to report they did come through despite being told there was nothing they could do.
