American Sheilds i PURCHASE THE WARRANTY AND TOLD EVERYTHING WILL BE COVER UNDER THE WARRANTY. ALL I HAD TO DO WAS TO PAY MY SERVICE FEE. MEMPHIS Tennessee
I purchase a warranty on my house from American Shields Company. I purchase just the basic warranty. I purchase the warranty on the phone and I asked the saleman would I be fully cover with the warranty. My answer was yes all you have to do is pay the service fee and we will do the repairs and take care of the cost. I was not sent any kind of paperwork or a contract in the mail. I was never told about any exceptions. I called to have a service call and they sent out a technician to look at my air conditioner and I had this warranty for just about a year, before I even used the service. The technician looked at the air conditioner and said I need a evaporator core. Since he was putting a new evaporator core on the sysytem, I will need to get code upgrade. American Shields advised me that they will paid for the evaporator core and $10.00 a pound for the refrigerant that goes in it. The refrigerant cost $85.00 a ponnd and I will be responsible for he additional cost. He stated I need 6 pounds. The total amount I would have to pay would be $795.00 with the warranty to get it repair. I let another technical look at the air conditioner and told me I only need 3 pounds of refrigerant and it only cost $45.00 a pound. What a big different in price. So I told Ameican Shield to give me a buy out and I will have the work done myself. Evaporate core can cost from $900.00 to $1,800.00 they said they were giving me wholesale price at $318.00 and they deducted the $125.00 for service charge and give me $193.00 to get the air conditioner fix. They were not giving me anything for the labor. I fell this is the biggest rip off. If they change the evaporator core they should do the ugrade also. I feel the company is just a taking people money and not doing what they should do for the consumer.
