Beware, Beware, Beware............  Transmission problem.  Nick (mechanic) claimed it was the air dryer.  Funny, I found this same solution on another webpage complaint posting.  I told them is wasn't, but they insisted the transmission was good and the air dryer would take care of the problem.  New air dryer, same problem.  I complained to Manager Sherry.  She insisted Nick was one of their best and now Nick says the transmission is good, but the clutch is bad.  New clutch, same problem.  They then said the transmission was bad and offered to replace.  I called Sherry and asked if I could speak with the owner and she said no.  After insisting, she said she would give him a message.  They both called me back.  The owner, Derrick, was pretty aggressive and easily flipped into attack mode to defend what his employees had done to that point.  I towed our truck out of that facility and took to Volvo.  Trust Me. Beware.  Their website says 20 bay shop and some other impressive things, but be sure to look up the google maps street view.  This place looks like a junk yard.

What you said is true, just because you have tools does not make you a mechanic, and I think that is exactly the point.

But what authority do you report to? I've been a truck driver for 39 years and done more than my share of working on them and more often than not I can tell you what is wrong with it when it breaks down, but when I bring it to you I expect you to tell me what is wrong with it, THE FIRST TIME, not just guess until you get it right.

The problem is, when your dealing with mechanics there are to many that just guess.

having a hammer does not make you a carpenter.

Having a lug wrench does not make you a mechanic.

There are numerous instances where people claim to have
the skills, but are totally incompetent.

If you spot them, report them to the authorities.

If you can get a lawyer to handle the case he can run criminal background checks on all 3 employees to see if anything 'colorful' shows up in their past. Great ammo to have in court. I'd think Volvo would offer to testify in order to force another wannabe operator out of business.

Looks like they were short on revenue for the month and you were the selected 'donor'. I'm sure Nick would have offered you a fresh tranny from one of their parted-out heaps in the yard, at a special price no less.

I'm surprised Sherry Patterson wasn't more helpful. Wonder what her trucking experience is ?

Volvo (Sweeten Truck Center) called me 1.5 hours after my truck was moved from Americorp Diesel Repair, Inc. and said it was fixed.  Nothing to do with the air dryer, clutch or transmission.  The leveling valve was bad, putting the drive line in a bind causing the noise.  My Shop Foreman and I both questioned Americorp's Tech and Manager about this last week and we were both told this wasn't the problem.  I had to pay Americorp $4,200 today for all this work I didn't need and was close to having to pay them for a transmission too!!!  Thanks to Volvo in Houston for their help and quick work!!
