Americredit were the only ones willing to finance us from Car Max 2 1/2 years ago. We have paid them without any negative marks on credit report. We have been paying nearly 21%. The car was totalled 2 weeks ago and my husband was injured and missed work. we called them BEGGING for mercy. There is $4,000 negative equity. They didn't budge a centimeter. No lowereing the interest rate. No deferment for a month. No moving the due date by even a few days. They wouldn't even put off reporting to credit bureau our first late payment. Even if you are desperate please don't go through this company. You can end up in a worse position than you began.

Collission Insurance?

Did you have collision insurance and did it pay the value of the car to the lender? I'm a bit surprised that after making regular, ON TIME payments for over 2 years that there would still be a negative equity. Even if you rolled the remaining balance from a previous vehicle loan into the loan for this vehicle, after 2 years of payments I would expect some (even if low) amount of equity to be positive. Also, folks who live on a tight budget should ALWAYS consider getting some type of additional insurance on their vehicle loans and mortgages that will continue to make the scheduled payments and/or payoff the loan should some type of illness or injury make it impossible to work.

Their Fault, Right???

Americredit is a subprime lender...meaning they finance people with bad credit. YOU were financed by Americredit because YOU have bad credit. People get bad credit by not paying their bills on time. Who didn't pay their bills on time, YOU. When you bought the car, YOU were presented with a contract. In that contract which YOU were to read, YOU would have seen the interest rate YOU had to pay because YOU have bad credit. At that point, YOU had the opportunity to accept those terms, or decline. YOU decided to accept those terms. Who decided to accept those terms? YOU. Now, fast forward...once again YOU are having a problem paying the bill on time. Who? YOU. By signing that contract, Americredit agreed to lend money on your behalf even though YOU have bad credit. YOU agreed to make the payments on time, every time and for the full amount. Who agreed to make the payments on time? YOU. Now, for whatever the reason, YOU aren't keeping your end of the agreement. Who? YOU. Americredit isn't your mother, your friend or your counselor. They are on the receiving end of your failure to pay the bill on time. Its all their fault, isn't it?
