Arab Electric Co-Op - Arab Water Works - Marshall County Gas - Otelco Phone Company Monopolizing Greedy Selfish Rip-off Utilities of Arab Alabama
The utilities in this town are a typical example of the abuse of power. They refuse to set up budget payments for the people they (you would normally use the word "serve" here, but since they do not serve anyone) supply power to. If they served anyone, they would be interested in the people's needs and best interest, but they are not.
The water department and is the only one that allows payments, but even they are one of the highest rates for water in the state. They charge you almost double of your water usage for sewer!
When they wanted to tag on a charge for brush removal of $3 a month, they refused to look at a plan that would allow the people to dump at the city landfill for free if they brought yard debree. Which the yard debree could be mulched and sold for $15 or $20 a pick-up full and make the city money. Go Green? Of course not in Alabama.
The phone company will not take payments, but will allow you to pay down to the last $20 you owe without being shut off. Still they have some of the worst rates in the nation.
Funny, Ma Bell was called a monopoly, and yet we are forced here to use Otelco, cannot use AT&T or Ma Bell or any other company to get cheaper rates. So what do you call that.....? A monopoly.
We are forced to use them and do not have freedom of choice in who to use to get a competitive rate. They are thieves stealing from the people. They have the very worst speed internet that is higher priced than Ma Bell or AT&T by a whopping $20 a month, but Ma Bell cannot come in an give the people what they want....cheaper monthly rates.
Marshall County Gas gouges in the winter months and will not allow payments with bills as high as $250 a month for a single parent with one child...unreal and pathetic. These wonderful people refuse to allow payments, and absolutely refuse to send out monthly budgeting bills, or harrass you if they decide to take a couple of payments treat ing you like trash. And Helloooo....we are talking the bible belt here, no compassion for struggling single parents at all...real christian like.
The Alabama Electric Co-Op, the lady in the payment window is rude and condescending, refusing to take a payment if you forget your bill, even if no one is behind you. All because she is too lazy to look it up on the computer right in front of her face. Utilities "Service"...? Not on your life. These wonderful people even charge you the late fee if the billing due date falls on the...weekend...if you don't pay it by the Friday before at 4:30 pm....yes you did read that right...even if the due date is on the weekend. Only in Alabama folks...the bible belt...full of the compassion of Jesus right...nope...Ebenezer Scrooge!
My house has been empty too with only my 19 year old child living in it alone who was never at home, working and going to college, kept the lights off, and the AC set on 80 degrees and still the electric was $90. I do agree that they are ripping people off.
These people do not care one thing about the people they are suppose to be serving, not fleecing. The local police and town hall are even worse. They pull you over and if you can't put your hands on your insurace card...even if it is in the glove box and you can't find it due to being nervous about being pulled over, they still charge a whopping $130 dollars. In any other county, in any other city any where in the state and the nation for that fact, you could bring in your insurance card proving current insurance coverage and could present it to the magistrate and have it dropped.
Not in Arab, AL. They charge you anyway, becuase they are power starved, greedy, and money hungry with no compassion for anyone. You come into their court room and the magistrate, the police and the judge, look at the people with sneers of pride and power, make jokes about the people in the court room and sit and laugh at them. It is surreal like a Dukes of Hazard show or something. You would not believe the abuse of power that goes on in this little one horse town. Here, it appears that the police are corrupt from the mayor down.
They have all the power they think. But one day they will stand before a judge and they will have no power at all then, when every knee shall bow. They won't bow or humble themselves now, but they will then, whether they want to or not. On that day, when both small and great stand before him, they will stand beside the lower society people they have judged, and they will ask for mercy and compassion, but will recieve only the mercy that they given...none.
I only pray the people in power of this town, the people in authority of the utilities will stop this practice of no compassion for its people and begin to make policies that help people, not just to put profit in their greedy pockets.
