I signed up to take online classes through your university around January of 2008. I was signed up through Daniel Payne. He was fantastic. He told me the psych classes were going to be starting soon, and I would need to get enrolled as soon as possible, to start the program. He told me I wouldn't have to pay anything until 6 months after I graduated. He said financial aid would cover it. I spoke to my parents and we decided that it would be perfect for me. I could work full time and still earn my degree. I didn't have much money, but I wouldn't have to pay until 6 months after I graduate, so it didn't really matter. So I started taking classes. Everything was great. I was so happy and excited to work with Ashford University. After the first class I was told they needed to finish some financial aid paperwork. I sent that in and continued on. The same thing happened again. I sent that in and continued on. Then I was told I couldn't take classes until I resolved the balance. Just to remind you, I was told financial aid would take care of me until 6 months after I graduate!...Anyway I spoke to my mother. Because I was only 23 I still was considered a dependant. She would have had to take a loan for me to continue. She is on disability and cannot afford to pay a loan. Again.no money out of my pocket until 6 months after I graduate? So I was stuck. I would have to clear out the balance in order to continue. I had rent, my car payment, etc. I couldn't afford to pay something that I was told I wouldn't have to. It was sent to Ashford collections. They told me I could fill out a form to make me an independent, and not be dependant on my parents. Then the same person told me it was too late and I couldn't get back into classes. I had no choice but to let it be sent to collections. Currently I am paying this $4000.00 bill to Williams and Fudge. My collections agent is Don Perkins. I sent them this letter explaining what happened twice. nobody got back to me.
