Associated Consultants $4900 Scam sent to me, too. Received it today Toronto Ontario
I received the same letter and fraudulent check today from Associated Consultants, Inc., in Ontario, Canada that others have reported.
Apparently they're using different banks and different companies to avoid detection.
The check for $4900, dated 10/08/2008, was drawn on the the account "American R. Supplies, Inc." in Bellaire, TX, held by the "First Prosperity Bank", several states away from me.
I contacted the bank, not Associated Consultants or American R. Supplies, thinking it would be a shortcut to learn if the bank account was valid and could cover the check. It wasn't. The bank had no company at all with the account number given on the check.
At their request, I faxed them a scanned copy of the check and the letter, and they'll pursue it further.
I plan to contact the local banks and newspapers to advise them that people may be trying to cash or deposit this fraudulent check since I'm sure I'm not the only one who has received one in this area. There are many who won't research this matter and could certainly have their bank account information harvested AND have to repay the $4,900 if they spend it before the check bounces.
