Dave, You hit it right on the head!!! It absolutely is fraud and the phone companies are complicit in it. Up to their ears!!!!! There is absolutely no way that they can not be aware that they are being used to commit this fraud. They don't care because for each person they can get to pay these creeps, they can get a cut. The phone companies aren't "victims" and innocent pawns. They know when they are getting complaints where companies and individuals are using their billing system to steal from people. These scum even have a way to get around #900 and 976 blocks. They route the call to somewhere like the 201 area code and then switch it to a #900 or 976. It is so easy to get this downloaded onto your computer. It is called "drive-by downloads." There is a program called Ad-aware from www.lavasoft that has a FREE program that can find these "dialers" as well as pop-ups and other malicous software and remove them. I would recommend that you download it, run it and at least once a week (maybe more often) update it and run it. I would also recommend making a report with the FTC at www.ftc.gov. I don't know if it will help, but if enough people lodge complaints then when things finally do happend they will have to answers as to why they didn't do anything. On a personal note. I have e-mailed some of these companies that make this junk and told them that I hope that eventually the law catches up to their scam and they rot in jail. Of course, they never reply back. They mask their software on the open market as Employer Monitoring Software used to make sure that employees are abiding by company internet policy. Or some other garbage.
