My father died January 28, 2015 at age 94 he had no estate. I have been trying to resolve his accounts the past couple of months. He had long distance phone service with his landphone with AT&T Probably arranged in the late 1980s or early 1990s where he was charged for each long distance call the price depending upon where he called and for how long. He had local service most recently provided by Frontier for a price that could have included unlimited long distance calls anywhere in the United States if he had been advised to make that change.
This is where it gets interesting after riping my elderly father off for years with outrageous rates for long distance calls when I called to cancel his service no one could find his account for almost 2 hours and 5 different customer service agents no one could find his account I gave both the phone number and the account number and requested that the service be canceled as of March 5, 2015.
On March 20, 2015 I received a bill from AT&T for $151.98 they did not cancel the service but changed the service from my father's name to my name without my permission and informed me I could not cancel the service until I paid the full bill. I was livid and called 1-800-532-7486 to complain vigorously after a couple of customer service people I ended up with Julius Lopez who promised me if I paid the bill no one from AT&T would call or send me bills anymore. So I paid with my credit card having no money left in my checking account.
Frontier had informed AT&T on March 13 that they were now the long distance service provider. I had contracted with them on March 5. I did make some long distance calls after my father died and before I asked for cancelation on March 5 to my brothers informing them of the death of our father and used the phone to shore up other unfinished business of my fathers. They charged me the outrageous rates my father paid for years.
AT&T is a heartless, souless, nefarious, greedy coporation. Just the sight of AT&T makes me nauseous and want to vomit.
