Autozone in Austintown Ohio is bogus.

I had purchased an altenator for my 1998 chevy astro van.

This was mid november, and not more than three weeks later i was back at the same autozone returning it. It had a bad Voltage regulator. They honred the exchange and I was off to replace it. This caused me to lose 3 hours of delivery time.

Ok so i decide things happen now less than two weeks laster im back in the same boat. Now this being christmas eve i arrive at 5:40 pm and tell the man behind the counter that I need him to replace my alternator again, Im experencing thesame problem. Its not charging. "oh i doubt that we never have any problems with that alternator, let alone two being bad". "Ill test it" was his response.

So out we go to test it and its not holdiong the charge, His response is "hmm the diodes are fine , but its not charging right its arond 12.5....I say; " so its the voltage regulator?" and he replies "yes".

I then propose purchasing the hi end model right now and bring the bad part to him monday morning. His response is "no, i can't do that" , I reasoned that this is the second alternator that went bad and they should do something so that I can work on wed. Im in the system and i have spent alot of money at this store.

He the said, " well maybe its not the voltage regulator, and you should bring the part back on wed. And test it again." Now correct me if im wrong but I have been a manager and I wonder why he couldnt help me out. Well they will get my part back and i will get a full refund. Im thinking legale action to recuperate my loss time at work. Not sure if i got a case I'd like to find out.

They should have let you purchase the High End model.

They should have been able to let you purchase the High End model(Duralast Gold) and then let you return the bad one for a full refund. But, the only way they can let you return it, is if they test it outside of the car. Each AutoZone store should have a alternator testing machine, if the tester says its bad then you can return the bad part because the machine is linked to their system. It is also more accurate than the cart they wheel outside.
