These folks do what movers do, which is to underestimate weight and cubic feet and then increase the price after they take your belongings, even though inventory is actually a little less than estimate is based.  Because I refused to pay additional undocumented charges they are holding my belongings hostage and refusing to deliver.  I filed a BBB complaint 14 days ago and they haven't responded at all.  I filed an additional complaint today with the FMCSA.

In summary: 1) They only showed up on the day they confirmed because I demanded it but showed up well outside of the confirmed time window and kept me and my neighbors up until 4:30 in the morning to complete the move. 2) They have increased the price when it really should have lowered since there were items on the inventory not included in the move. They haven't documented anything to justify additional charges  3) They misquoted the insurance coverage and are either unable or unwilling to provide evidence of coverage. 4) They have threatened me with late fees when it is they who failed to collect payment at pick up.  5) They are currently holding my belongings hostage and refusing to deliver because I haven't agreed to pay additional unsubstantiated costs.

I don't disagree but, in Chicago, I contacted more than 10 companies and only one would come to do an in home estimate and that was more than 3 times the average of all the others. All the rest have you do the inventory and that's what they base the esitmate on. I suppose one conclusion is that most of the moving companies serving that area (and doing out of state moves) are going to rip you off. That doesnt make it okay though so just wanted to let folks know about this particular company. The estimate is binding on the inventory items so that is my complaint. They then revised the price based on something other than the inventory and didn't even attempt to relate the increase to the inventory. As well they charged quite a bit of the additional charge for "additional packing servicees and matdrials" and that is absolutely wrong. The packing services they provided were requested and included in the estimate.

I am not blaming you. There are some red flags that these movers showed right from the beginning that would have been fair warning to you if you had known what to look for:

  • Quoting a price over the phone without coming to give you a written estimate based on seeing the goods to be moved
  • Quoting in cubic feet - this is the one huge red flag that tells you right up front that you are dealing with a scammer
  • It is extremely important to get an in home estimate. Any mover that won't come out to give you one is a mover to be removed from the list of candidates.
