Axia College Of University Of Phoenix a degree that i was told would cost $9,500 has cost a whole lot more phoenix , Arizona
i enrolled at the university of phoenix thinking that it was a great way to further my education and still spend quality time with my children. now i i know i was totally wrong. when i spoke to the enrollment advisor we discussed my options and i decided to enroll into the adminstrative health care pharmacy practice that was soposed to cost $9,500 to recieve my associates degree. i also filled out a fafsa and applied for some student loans to cover the amount of the courses. when i was down to my last two courses i failed the algebra course ok so i would have had to retake that course no sweat. when it came to the failed humanitys class i called the acidemic advisor to let her know that i was unable to take the course due to my mothers kidney failure and many dr. appointments.
i continued trying to attenend my class so i would not be dropped as a student because if you are out of attendence for a total of three weeks they drop you as a student and then you must start paying back your loans right away. well time went on i recieved a failing grade when the acidemic advisor had called me back the course was over and she stated that i should not have been posting assignments in the class if could not do all the work, but i didnt want to be dropped from the program so i did what i could. when speaking with the financial advisor i was told that they where still going off of my 2008-2010 aid papers so i had no more funds available for my classes, but i filed for 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 aid as well. i was then told by the financial advisor that he had spoke to his supervisor and they would waive the algebra class fees but i must first pay for the humanitys class that had called and tried to postpone untill times where better for my family so i had no choice but to with draw and apply to a college that close to my home.
when i called to have my transcripts transfered to the new college i was told that they where unable to transfer them due to the balance of the course i tried to postpone from the start, to contact financial advisor to set up a payment araingment and he could over ride the transcrips to have them sent i still have not heard from the yet i still dont know where my aid for 2009-2010 is or the aid for 2010-2011 rears are but i have found out that i owe student loans in the amount of 20,000 dollars rather than the 9,500 dollars that i was told in the start. now i have to start over from the begining at a new college when i was only two courses away from graduation so theres more money that i have to pay when this nightmare is over

I feel for you. I was a student at University of Phoenix from 2002-2009 where I completed by Bachelors and Masters degrees. I also spent 3 years an an Academic Counsleor for Axia College of the University of Phoenix (associates program). What the Enrollment Counselor neglected to probally tell you was that it takes 2.5 finanical aid years to complete an associates degree and costs $9,500 per financial aid year. 60 Credits to graduate.
If you ever get into a crisis and are unable to complete classes, you can ask for a leave of absence (LOA). LOA's are granted to student for your type of situation. LOA's can be approved for up to 60 days and 90 days in extreme circumstances. When you had this family crisis and were failing classes, the financial aid counsleor could have let you drop the classes and offered you a Authorized Withdrawal Tuition Credit (AWTC) if you had completed less than 6 weeks of class. What this would have done for you was: Not failed the classes, you would still have to retake the classes, but the AWTC would have been applied to the classes that you dropped, freeing up the financial aid funds that payed for the dropped classes, and allowed that money to be applied to the retake of the same classes. SO you would not have had any out of pocket expences and have been able to complete the classes and graduated.
What happened to you was that when you failed, they waived one class but not the next. You would have had to pay out of pocket for that class due to the fact that financial aid only pays for the class ONE time and any retakes are at the students expence WHEN the classes is Failed or an AWTC is not an optiopn. SO this left you a balance owing to UPX because in that disbursment period you only completed half of the requirments for that disbristment which was 6 credits and 9 weeks of instructuction. So you had a return to lender, which means that any funds that were not earned by completing the by required credits and weeks of instructions were returned to your lender. (12 credits and 36+ weeks of instructions)
This usally leaves the student owing money to UOPX. Once your Finance counsleor began tryting to collect the balancing owning on your account, your transcripts are placed on hold and no credits will be able to be transferred unless you had an official transcript. What you should have done right after you faild those classes was go to UOPX student web abd requested the registers office send you copies of your transcripts. Do not open the transcript envelopes and they stay official and will be accepted by another univeristy and the credits would be transferred and awarded. Once opened they are now unoffical.
