I read your report with interest, because this bank is the biggest pain in the fanny in the world. They operate like the old-time gangsters. I had no idea that Bank of America would ever cash ANYTHING without an ID. If you have an established account there, you still have to bring two picture IDs, a library card, your voter registration, your birth certificate and your mother and/or grandmother to verify your legal existence! Then after they take fingerprints and hair samples (in case they should need DNA samples for later) they might deign to deposit (not cash)the paycheck you have worked all week for into your established account. Of course, you do know they will put a "hold" on these funds for an undetermined length of time...usually long enough for you to have "bounced" several checks and them to begin collecting those overdraft fees, even if they have to wait two months for that to happen. Bank Of America seems to operate under a system of fluctuating rules that are always slanted in their favor, much like the odds at a casino. They will never admit wrongdoing or mistakes. Somewhere in their really thick "Book of Rules" with teeny-tiny print, there will be a disclaimer absolving B of A of all liability for this snafu (even if they have to go have them printed up overnight). I am sorry I cannot help you with this money order dilemma; you will be out your service fee and probably your twenty bucks before it is all over. There are no helpful consumer comments when dealing with this bank. It is always their way or no way. Your best bet is to keep pushing the issue with the postal inspectors and perhaps they can enforce a rule change for cashing money orders across the board. Mail theft is a felony, maybe a few public beheadings would make people less likely to do it? Have you noticed that one crook always seems amenable to helping another crook? The only "dreams" this bank achieves are consumer nightmares, but very good for Bank of America's bottom line. You have my deepest sympathies for your unfortunate experience with this bank. I know for a fact that you do not even have to be their customer for them to steal from you!
