The hold on your account is almost certainly a hold placed by the bank's loss prevention department when there is a concern that fraudulent activity may be taking place on the account. Consider this from the bank's point of view. A customer signs up for a new checking account with a small deposit into which a large direct transfer from another account occurs immediately thereafter. This is a pattern that might be used by someone committing identity theft to clear out someone's account, though I have no reason to doubt you're acting in good faith. Once you've spoken to their loss department I'm sure they'll be able to release the funds. This is a separate issue from the temporary card not being activated. Usually you can activate the card either by calling the number on the back of the card, or taking it to an ATM and using your PIN to validate your identity. I look forward to seeing your update.

""I was directed to an 'Accounts Overview Screen' which showed my account overdrawn in excess of $887,808.88, when the balance should have been $1080.00!"" So new account is almost ONE MILLION DOLLARS overdrawn? Is that right? There HAS to be something else going on. Perhaps you should talk to this relative of yours that made this alleged transfer to your account. The follow up report from you should be very interesting.
