Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I did a mobile deposit from the app on my phone. When I went to go check my account online it said "account locked". I called Bank of America and they gave me a number to their risk department. The guy I spoke with told me my work check I deposited was counterfeit and they were closing my account. How the hell does this happen? He told me I would have to get a letter head from the bank the check was written from to keep my account. Meanwhile my rent check was about to go through and my state taxes were to be deposited. Now there is a hold on my account and nothing I can do. I saved my check, so I took it to the bank that issued it and cashed it. Banks are a frickin rip off to those who don't make more than the average person. Bank of America is horrible and I gave reported them to The Better Business Buereau.

So Bank of America closed your account because the check that you did a mobile deposit on, they deemed to be counterfit.  But yet they told you to take it to the bank that the check was drawn on and you had no issues?  That is total BS.  No bank will ever tell you that.  Bank A won't cash a check because it is a fake but bank B will?  What are you not telling us?

I'm not in the wrong....

This was a check from a hospital and the person in the risk department told me they were not going to cash it and I could take it and cash it somewhere else. So, I didn't do anything illegal. I in fact took it to the bank it was written from and cashed it.

YOU are incorrect!! It was the WAY you attempted to deposit it that caused the issue. If even a few pixels are off then its NOT going to look right. SO its going to be denied. Whats more interesting is that BoA has closed YOUR account on ONE instance!! So whats the REAL truth here? How many times have YOU had issues? First, YOU must understand that its a BUSINESS and as such they have the right to close your account FOR ANY REASON!!! If THEY dont want YOU as a customer, well that is THIER RIGHT!!! But to be closed out on just ONE BAD LOOKING CHECK?? I would suggest that YOU stop trying to BE a millenial and get off your a$$ and GO TO THE BANK!!! Or are YOU just so stubborn YOU wont listen to reason? This could have all been avoided COMPLETLY if YOU at least went to an ATM!!! Then the check would be in thier hands, you know instead of a d**n PICTURE of a check. The TECHNOLOGY has failed YOU and YOUR need for convenince has caused this. Change YOUR banking habits and take the TECH out of the loop. Or dont and continue to face issues like this one because YOU want everything to be easy.

You attempted to cash a check that Bank of America said was fraudlent.

To most people that would be a big "red flag" that they perhaps should investigate a bit more.  After all what would be the purpose for them to call this check Counterfeit?  Did they just decide to pick on you at random?  Perhaps you figure that they are going to somehow "party" with your funds.  Of course not, there is a reason why they flagged it and caused them to close your account.

Was this check from someone you personally know?  Why did they send you a check?    How much was the check for?  Have you ever depsoited checks from these people before?

The reason all those questions are important is because there are hundreds of "scams" out there that will send you a check for various reasons.  Everything from "Shopping Evaluations" to "Lottery Winnings".  But they all have one component...that you cash the check and send them back a portion by something like Western Union or Gift Cards.  If this even remotely explains your situation you have been scammed and with your actions YOU are now on the way to prision for FRAUD.

The reason is that you have cashed a check you have been told was fraudlent so with that knowlege even a junior grade DA could get you convicted doing 1-5 years in prision.  That bank took your information and will be able to track you down when the check comes back as bad.  Even if the check is good, this is the second attempt to cash the check.  So one of the two banks(either BofA or this bank) will come after you for doing it twice.

So either way if the check is good or bad you could be considered to have comitted fraud.  Personally, I would start looking for a good attorney for when the "poop hits the fan" in a few days.
