I purchased a female 4 month old boxer over the internet from a breeder in Texas.

I picked her up from the airport and found her to be thin and lethargic. Upon arrival home, she immediately had bouts of diarrhea. By the evening, she could barely stand and could only sleep. At about 4:30 am, she began vomiting, continuing this every 15-20 mins for the next several hours. At 8:00 am, she was diagnosed with parvo and I was advised to rush her to a specific 24 hour veterinary clinic as she was "crashing" and in need of immediate care. That particular clinic would only treat her if I paid $2500. in advance for any medical procedures to help her. Six days later, my vet bill was up to $3800. and climbing.

I removed her from the facility as I had reached my financial limit and contacted Ms. Bartlett for assistance with the costs incurred from her sending me a seriously ill puppy.

She claimed that it was perfectly fine when she sent the puppy and that she must have picked up the parvo her in California, as she stepped off of the plane. She continued to say that she was in serious financial straights and was unable to help me and that she would "do what she could". So far, she paid me less than half of what I had paid for the puppy only.

She admitted to sending me a sick puppy in a letter to an employee of the Better Business Bureau after writing in the majority of her letter that the puppy must have picked up parvo here in California.

Later, Ms. Bartlett writes to an employee for the California Attorney General's Office that she has never had parvo in her kennel and that she had nothing to do with the puppy ever having this disease.

After contacting the US Consumer Protection Agency, Ms. Bartlett continues to say that she is in desperate finacial need as, the same parvo that struck my puppy, has all but wiped out litters of puppies in her kennel. Because of this, she is unable to make her house payments and may possibly lose her house. All the while, her website shows puppy after puppy being sold for extremely high prices-prices that a show dog would sell for.

Beware of this person, as she will sell any kind of puppy in any condition and then refuse to take it back or reimburse for the funds due to the loss of the animal. This is someone who is not to be trusted!

My Boxer has Dermodec Mange

#2

Sun, September 13, 2009

As I stated in my previous report on Bartlett's Boxers, they sent me a boxer pup with full blown parvo.  Because I was so concerned with saving her from the parvo, I ignored the red bumps on the inside of her back thighs.

After she seemed to be past the parvo illness, I noticed that the red bumps started to spread up her tummy and to her neck and all over her legs.  The vet did a skin scraping and verified that she had "dermodec mange", which is passed on from the parents to the offspring.  I battled that horrible skin condition for many months, finally having her spayed, once the rash had calmed down.  This was after months of dips and skin treatments with salves and ointments and wearing a giant plastic collar so that she wouldn't scratch herself raw.  The vet wouldn't spay her until the mange was under control.

Now, at age two, she has bald spots all over her body as a result of the mange.  She still has a large red hairless area on her front right paw that gets attacked by flies that want to bite her there.  It is so hard to continually put ointment on her as she wants to lick it off.  I cannot take her to the dog park because other owners there act like she has a horrible, contageous skin condition and that they are afraid to allow their dogs to be around mine.  I stopped going because I was tired of answering all of the questions about my sweet little girl.  She has a great personality, but I question her previous conditions as she was never vaccinated and the breeder admitted this to a Better Business Bureau employee in writing.  I never really got into the mange condition as I spent the majority of my money on trying to save her life from the parvo virus.

One thing is for sure that this breeder sold me a puppy that was sick with parvo and contaminated by a skin disease called "dermodec mange".  I cannot believe that she has not been shut down by now as she is knowingly selling sick and diseased dogs to innocent unsuspecting families.  I am floored that she has not be visited by the local animal control officers for having a facility that is breeding ill animals.
She needs to be stopped-Now!
