The goal for My wife Natalie and I was to fix our e machine computer by replacing the motherboard. The salesman said it was unfixable. Instead, Daniel sold Natalie an inferior model that he felt would serve our needs. The salesman was also so bold to request we give him our damaged computer which had a good cd drive, a brand new dvd drive, a good floppy drive, a brand new video card, and 2 new sticks of RAM memory after Natalie picked up the new computer. This is at minimum 250.00 worth of components that Daniel wanted free. Natalie refused to leave our computer there. The new computer was bought using a Visa card on June 5, 2006. The purchase price was 279.99 . Natalie was also charged 29.99 for a diagnostic on the computer and she was refunded 100% for an unused power supply unit for 39.99, which was bought couple days earlier in the same store.

The total receipt of the bill was 293.09 after the adjustmant for the power supply returned. Sale No. 271. After bringing the new computer home the first day Natalie did not want to use it because it had an inadequate video card since she has poor eyesight. She wanted to return it immediately and called the store the next day telling them she was bringing it back because it wasnt what she needed. The answer from the salesman was "yes ok bring it back". The computer was brought back on the 12th of June...7 days after purchase . Thomas Sloan and other salesman told Natalie to come back later because there wasnt enough money in the store. They took computer back and told Natalie to come back in 3 or 4 days while they were collecting enough cash to pay her back. Since Natalie was assured she was getting 100% of her money back she went to Austin to Fry's and ordered necessary components to put her computer back together. We went back to Bastrop Computers after 5 days to collect our money.

We were told we didnt have any right to return our purchase but they would be so kind to give us 75 % of the value minus 25 % restocking fee for the computer (73.47). We were told that they didnt have to refund anything and every store has a restocking fee which is common practice in the industry. The 73.47 was 25 % of 293.09...not the 279.99 price of the Tower....I told the salesman that noone charged 25 % restocking fee especialy without disclosing this up front.....I feel this is very unethical and deceitful....especialy since our computer was easily fixed at Fry's computer in Austin with no complaints about any technical difficulties involved.

What Bastrop Computers is REALLY about...

#2Consumer Comment

Mon, December 01, 2008

Bastrop Computers opened back in 2004. From what I understand, the owner, Daniel opened up the store to help people in Bastrop, TX not to "rip them off." That is never his intention. I have been a loyal customer to Bastrop Computers for just about as long as they have been open. Not once have I ever had a negative experience with them. Whether it's the owner or one of his employee's I am dealing with, they have always done everything within there power to send me home happy. Now as far as the report made by James, I can tell you that the items Daniel was trying to obtain for "Free" were not worth over $250 dollars. "damaged computer which had a good cd drive, a brand new dvd drive, a good floppy drive, a brand new video card, and 2 new sticks of RAM memory" The above items were maybe valued at $50 - $75 at most. On top of that, any computer store is not going to give you retail value for your parts. They take in old computers or broken computers as a courtesy to the customer. I've always sent everyone I know to Bastrop Computers for all there computer needs. They have always done good. The salesman Thomas doesn't even work there anymore. The staff is very friendly and courteous. I wouldn't worry too much about the SINGLE comment of one disgruntled customer. There is no way to determine the validity of the comment. Its one persons word over Bastrop Computers. Bastrop Computers has continued business for the last 2 more years and I always see cars parked outside the store. I imagine that they are doing something right. Bottom Line, Bastrop Computers is a good local business to go with. Don't let the comments of one customer send you into Austin for higher prices and dissapointment. Thanks for reading!
