If you like USED CAR SALESMEN, you should love BB&T MORTGAGE LENDING department. After shaking hands on a 4.0% mortgage commitment, the BB&T man surprised borrower at closing with paperwork showing 4.375%. Upon appeal, he (Eckley) wrote:

I apologize that we had a miscommunication on the capped rate. I locked the loan at the rate of the day which was.a cap of 4.375% for the jumbo loan. We lowered the cap to 4.25% yesterday and lowered the construction rate to 4.875%. That is the best that we have available. Let me know if you would like to proceed on the loan. Thank you.

He received this reply from the prospective borrower:

The path is clear as far as I am concerned. I have no peace about dealing with a used car salesman.

While I can't speak to the complainant's experience, I can speak firsthand of my experiences with Shawn Eckley who has personally handled the mortgage loan for my home.

Mr. Eckley has always been exceptionally professional and willing to educate me on the numerous loan types and variations that he offers.  Through the process I've learned that comparing mortgage products between various companies can be challenging as it is rarely an apple-to-apple comparison.

This also applies to interest rates where it is not only important to know the rate, but also the terms and conditions associated with that rate such as lock periods.  Too often it seems people focus only on the number rather than the entire scenario.  This can lead one to feel deceived, when in actuality they didn't hear or understand the entire message.

Baiting and switching is not Mr. Eckley's style as he is far to established and far to knowledgable of the mortgage industry to need to resort to those tactics.  His professionalism and ethics in my opinion set him apart from many in the profession.  I look forward to leveraging Mr. Eckley's knowledge for my future mortgage needs and would highly recommend him to anyone.
