BC-Alberta Movers have been a nightmare from Day 1. On the day of pickup, which was very difficult to set up, the movers came without packing supplies, which we payed extra for, and damaged our property on the porch, which they did not even mention before leaving. They used our own linens and towels to cover furniture, which have now been destroyed. After signing an incomplete contract for an estimate of $3000, with a max delivery date of 24 days, we received a bill through email stating we all of a sudden owed over $7000, and that our stuff would MAYBE be there in 40 days. First off, it is against the law to go up this much on a given estimate, and the company has decided to ignore any of the mishaps, and have given us the run around, and will not let us speak to a manager. Sound shady? We Still have not received our belongings, and have been having trouble contacting the company after they hung up the phone on us multiple times, and disregarded our concerns through emails. We have filed multiple reports with the Better Business Bureau, and other federal sites, after we found out this type of moving scam is common, and there are new laws against it. DO NOT USE BCALBERTA MOVERS; THEY ARE NOT A LEGIT COMPANY, AND ARE NOT REGISTERED WITH THE BBB OR CAM! They did not have tracking on our shipment, never gave us a booklet of information on our stuff, and never sent us a required itemizes report of everything that was loaded into their trucks. They do not follow the law, and are extremely rude to their clients.

As we are a fair and honest family owned company, we have contacted our previous customers and asked for their support in helping us keep our reputation.  As you have read above I have added there emails to me in the report.  I would also like to report back that this customer once delivered has never called or submitted any claims to our company for rectification of damages they have claimed in this report.   If we damaged this customers property we would have been happy to rectify the situation .  However, like any insurance company we need to have a submitted claim (which they have been aware of).   I thank you for taking the time to read all evidence regarding this statement made by an angry customer because they made an error and added far more weight to their shipment.

I'm reluctant to get our email address & other connecting information involved with these sites - but I feel for your      troubles with the unhappy customer. Your rebuttal does a good job of giving the reader the other side of the story. And the Ripoffreport #2Consumer Comment is very positive.

Unfortunately, soon after our move, my note to you expressing our overall satisfaction is locked up in another email program we are having trouble with, so I can't read it & resend it to you now. But, assuming you have it, you are welcome to use it providing you remove identifying details. It's not that we won't sign our name to a recommendation (or a complaint), it's that we don't want to attract unwanted contact.

Incidentally, we rarely read customer service reviews such those for restaurants, hotels, etc., but the few I've run across often seem to include some writers' nasty, emotional language - that to me is suspect. I think some people make a pastime of online trashing various businesses they encounter.

Jerrit, allow me to make a closing comment that has only reoccurred to me now in reading  the TheSqueakyWheel "Bait and Switch" paragraph from Eric. When you & I first spoke on the phone on 6/15, you mentioned a minimum rate price of $550 plus tax, plus the other charges for the island destination & fuel surcharge. The $550 was the number that grew as we got very specific about what we were shipping. Eventually we were paying about $1200 for the basic shipping (plus the various extras which were all clear & understood, & unchanged).

(In writing this I have not looked up the invoice, so don't fault me for being off the exact number - my generality is what is important.) You & I discussed a few times that many people don't grasp the nature of cubic volume, weight, packing, etc. as pertains to shipping via truck - so there is either a risk you take in initially quoting too low; or quoting at all until you have lots of details; or spending insufficient time educating the customer.

Once again, we were/are very pleased with our BC-Alberta Movers experience. You individually were/are a pleasure to deal with. Your end price was very competitive. Dan was very easy to work with - kept in touch through the entire process. And the two hours  they spent here unloading went very well - a pleasure too!

Always good to hear from you. Best regards,
Ron & Judy

Hi, I am more than happy to share my experience with you you will have to put it online though, as I dont want to open an account with these sites. Here is what I have to say, and I would like to see the sites youve posted the statement on after it has been done. I used AB movers for my move from Montreal to Edmonton in October of 2011. Moving across the country is not an easy task, and especially on a budget is even more or so daunting.I had an estimate done via email just as the word says, the actual price may be higher or lower, depending on the real weight of the cargo moved.

The contract is binding the rate, and nothing else really, as no one has a crystal ball to weigh your items over the phone.  I packed all my belongings, and the movers carefully wrapped every piece of furniture and odd items (brooms, vacuum, hoses, bike, buckets, even the balcony wooden table) in blankets, taped them, and used runners on the floors to ensure there is no damage. Although my boxes were extra packed, they got to the destination without a scratch or even a broken glassI was told between seven to ten working days for delivery, I got the delivery the following Saturday five business days.

The same crew that picked up my possessions have delivered them without any problems. Yes, a floor vase was broken, and because of that they didnt want to take the tip I offered.  I also shipped my car via the same company. I got it shipped in advance of my departure from Montreal the lady from the office guided me as to when to do so to have a car when I arrive in Edmonton. Sure enough I arrived on Monday at 11:00AM, and my car was delivered without a scratch at three PM the same day.

Moral of my story: Prepare in advance, thinking of all the little details that matter plan your departure, arrival, budget, extras and coordinate appropriately       Ask if you dont know, also anticipate that things may not go as planned, and you have to have a contingency plan in case that happens when I moved from Vancouver to Montreal another company my furniture arrived three weeks after my arrival, and had to sleep on an inflatable mattress that I packed and moved with me on the plane.

As well, I had the minimum comfort packed with me on the plane bathroom items, kitchen items etc, which allowed me to function normally until the rest arrived. My furniture did come damaged beyond me how you can actually break a treadmill, and a chair -  it took me almost a year to collect the value of the damaged goods, but I did it, out of the understanding that we are all human. You dont want any risk, dont move, just as if you dont have the means to do it, wait. Its all common sense, as life happens.

Additional Fact's regarding this complaint

When booking Customers, we take detailed information regarding what they will be shipping,  this customer signed a contract agreeing to ship a particular list of items. The customer has taken it upon themselves to double the size of their shipment, they were aware that the shipment was calculated by weight as per the contract they signed and verbal disclosure from their sales rep.  Common knowledge would be if you add items to a scale, the weight will go up.  When my movers arrived their inventory list was over double the amount they were expecting to pack and load.  This resulted in the men not having proper packing materials, they did what they could with what they had as the customer needed to be out and they took the shipment to the warehouse where they repacked everything properly.  Because the shipment was so much larger than anticipated the shipment has been delayed in it's delivery as the truck we originally had planned did not have enough space for the overage amount of furnishings.  Furthermore the approx delivery time provided to the customer was 10 -24 Business Days and we are delivering only a few days later than the approximate times provide to the customer.

When the customer had called regarding the issues metioned, they have never allowed us to resolve the issue.  With that being said, when they called, they would not allow us to speak after asking us a question.  We had to just listen to her accussations and yelling.  Instead of being treated this way we sent an email asking to discuss online as we were not resolving anything over the phone. We have set up delivery with the customer 26 business days after the shipment was picked up.  We have also asked that the customer provide us with the name and telephone number of their previous landlord to get an estimate of cost for the damaged tile replacement. Yes the cost went up, but it would not have had they shipped the items on the contract.

BC Alberta Movers has been in business for over 32 years and you can see by viewing are complaint list that this is one of very very few out there.  We hold an A+ Rating with the BBB, however we do not pay their monthly dues to become a member and have them advertise for us.  We use a network of movers who provide us with servicing the US to Canada and they all have legal right to service USA Clients. Thank you for taking the time to read our side as well.
