In November of 2007, I received a message on my computer that a file was gone and corrupted. I took the computer to the Geek Squad, and later took them recovery discs I purchased from HP. They were to take the material from my computer, approximately 750,000 files, put it on a disc, and then put in the recovery discs. When I got my computer back, one month later, it was accompanied by a disc which supposedly had all my information on it. When I put it in, there were more than 80,000 files missing in one category, and I don't really know how much else. There were only approximately 250,000 files remaining. The Geek Squad insists that they put everything back on. They did not. The service order no., by the way, was 00526-929743338, November 15, 2007. Thanks.

the first comment is a good one. Also, when you requested the data backup, did you get the "limited" or "unlimited" backup? The limited backup covers only 9.4 gb of data, anything more than that would not be backed up. If you paid for unlimited, they would back up any amount more than 9.4 gb but they cannot backup system files or programs...only data like Word docs, photos, music, movies, e-mails, tax records. Customers that request data backups are usually very vague in describing what they want saved, they typically say "My documents" - so the tech will copy all of the user accounts over so anything in My Documents or on the desktop is saved. They always try to save more than what you request because odds are that you forgot about something that is important.

Did you just select all the folders and files in your root directory (C:\) and right click and go to properties to get that file count? If so, there is probably nothing missing as they would not back up system and O/S files. By the way, geek squad is not responsible for any data loss... read your service contract
