In 05 My wife opened a bestbuy card to make a puchase and was asked if she wanted the account care program. She said no, nothing to sign or box to check. When the first bill came account care program was on the card. Called and fought with rep to get it cancelled.

In 07 I opened a card under my name and once again was asked if I wanted account care. of course I said no but when first bill came there it was and another fight with customer service to cancel it. The employees must get paid to put it on or get in trouble if they dont because twice is to much of a coincedence. always check your bill they can put whatever they want on it

Yes the stores to get a type of "credit" for the account shield but your signature is required and all applications are double checked to make sure they were entered in correctly by a supervisor. You can order a copy of your application by calling HSBC at 1-800-365-0292. Don't knock Best Buy for your own ignorance. Call and take a look at your application, if you did sign the yes portion of the account shield disclosure, please remove this report. You are giving a good company a bad name. If you signed the no portion, then you are owed an appology because it is rare that 2 people will overlook that mistake when checking applications.

I'm an EX Geek agent I never worked in Customer service or processed any credit card apps for best buy customers.. but basically YES store do get extra $$ if a customer signs up for the optional credit protection insurance. or the optional mastercard in addition to the instore only credit card. as far as employees getting into trouble. I did see 7am morning meetings at my old store for 2hrs to address "low magazine subscription rates, optional creditcard protection & online internet subscriptions etc' for cashier's & customer service reps. this would reflect on an individuals yearly pay raise. a couple of techniques I seen were not illegal. but shady. from a simple customer service rep. saying "great, I just need you to sign here. and here.." one of course for the credit card, the other for the optional insurance. most people just do what they are told, or older people don't put on thier glasses etc. occationally a customer would say "...isn't this for the optional insurance that costs extra?" the rep would clarify themselves saying you needed to sign in one of the places and that's what they were refering to.(footnote: at the time I worked at best buy - the forms may have changed now - you had to specifically sign to either get it or reject it or the application couldn't be processed.) if a customer ever did find a problem they would call the bank (the store doesn't deal with your bill at all. they don't even take payments in the store) you and the Bank issuing the card and if you cancel the insurance after the first month. the store already got it's kickback. and maybe it's a $1 extra charge to your account. so most people are like not worth fighting over. the case your implying in your posting is that some employee checked a box or forged your signature which is actually a crime. I believe you have a right to request a photocopy of the actual application be faxed to you. what you need to realize is the 0% for 12 month deals people sign up for are NOT a good deal. 1 hour late on any payment (even if mailed 3 weeks in advance and they somehow don't get it) or you make the required minimum payments only to learn 2 months before the end this won't pay off the balance in time. and now a balloon payment is due to pay off immediately or it's interest charged all the way back to day one.
