I went to the store in question on Dec, 30th 2008 to purchase a printer and a Hard Drive. After i got home i tried it all out and the hard drive was fine but the printer would not print using the cable. it would only print using the wireless card. So i took it back 2 hours later and had them look at it. The dude looked at it for about 50 minutes and told me my software that controls my ability to install and use a printer was defective(the software that comes within windows) and so i exchanged it for a different one so i could avoid the 30 dollar service charge, if its a hardware problem its free if not i would have had to pay. SO i took it home and for awhile i never figured it out untill i get a system message from dell telling me that my usb audio driver could prevent a printer from working on usb. So i follow the directions to uninstall the driver and the printer works instantly like a charm. So i will be sure to never use geek squads services again.

We did nothing wrong

It seems clear we did nothing wrong in this situation. It's hard to say for sure, since you say "i get a system message from dell" and then you post "all i had to do was email hp", but we don't have that luxury. We don't contact the vendor when there are problems. You didn't have to pay anything. And you didn't actually solve the problem yourself, you contacted the vendor directly who has probably had lots of issues like this (whereas I have never heard of this issue).

Did you take in the computer?

Did you bring in your computer or just the printer? Because the Geek Squad is good, they know a lot, but memorizing which models use which drivers and exact driver compatibility with all hardware in the store.... that's not something they're responsible for.

"...The dude looked at it for about 50 minutes and told me my software that controls my ability to install and use a printer was defective(the software that comes within windows)" - Oh yea like Windows is error free...LOL. I am no fan of Geek Squad..but in this case it seems as if they were at least on the right track. So it wasn't the Printer Driver, it was the Audio Driver..not bad for not having the computer in front of them.
