In early May I was shopping in my local Best Buy, where I have often visited in order to for fill my personal requirements of various electronic merchandise. While there I noticed that Sprint was offering a rebate to any new or existing customers. I inquired about the details with the young man behind the cell phone counter.

I was inquiring on the fact that I have only had my service for 14 or 15 months. Do I qualify for the rebate?

Have you had it longer than a year?

Yes I have.

Then you qualify. I was happy about the news, looking forward to renewing my ailing phone. If I didn't qualify, I wouldn't have made the purchase, for I wasn't shopping with my money, I was shopping with the funds that donors have provided to the non-profit organization I manage. With rebate, the total would have came to $59, however instead it cost us (non-profit organization) a total of $209. Why?

As instructed I mailed to Sprint the Best Buy and Sprint Rebate Forms and copy of the sales receipt. The response received was that I didn't qualify for the rebate. Why? Because I didn't have service for longer than 18 months.

I quickly called the number provided by Sprint, and of course they stated they couldn't help due to the fact that I purchased the phone through Best Buy. Understandable, it was their mistake.

I made the trek back to Best Buy, where I relayed the events leading to that point four different times to four different people, none of whom could help me. You shouldn't have been told that. Rebates from Sprint require 18 months of service. Of course I already knew this fact. We can't help you here. Please contact our main office.

Once home I hopped online and email the Customer Service link to Best Buy, once again explaining my situation. They response was simple We can't help you, please contact the rebate department via our Customer Service Phone Number.

Upon speaking with the folks in their Rebate Department, I received the response I was growing tried of- We can't help. You should contact the Sprint Rebate department and address the issue with them. The Rebate Agreement states 18 Months. You should have read it. Ok, true I should have. As I should have never relied on the clerk behind the counter, my trust was in that Best Buy would provide correct information- I was wrong in assuming such a thing.

Now, say I did place a call back to the Rebate Department at Sprint, why and how would they help me? I didn't purchase the phone from them; it was purchased through Best Buy, who is unwilling to accept the mistakes of their own employees.

As I posted before, 4 months of lies from sprint about my $150 rebate. Only the promise of legal action the next day, got me a $150 CREDIT to my sprint bill from the store manager.

What Russell said is all true. A practically identical situation also happened to my wife at a Miami FL Best Buy store with a 150.00 dollar rebate that she never received. It was due to not having 18 months with Sprint, yet the salesperson made no mention of that pre-requistite. I made mention of it and it's titled: "Best Buy Lies About Sprint PCS Rebate"
