Bought a New Gateway computer at Best Buy and after a several days explorer would only open certain sites, the others would crash back to the deaktop. Never could access all the internet sites. Phoned the Geek Squad who I paid to install and set up the programs. Plus I purchased a 300 dollar warranty. It appears Explorer was pre-installed by the factory.

When I brought the computer back just to ask why this was happening the answer was we do not warranty any sofware. I know that, but it was sold to me not working from the start. Now, they said they would check the hard Drive and if was ok we will charge you. Then you have to check the software out yourself or send the computer back to the factory.( 14 days new )

Can you imagine I bought a new computer and the Geek Squad who I paid to install some other software could not just look and open the site and say here is the problem a setting on the software. No way...

I e-mailed Best Buy and explained what had happened and I was sold an computer that did not work and it should be fixed by them and it should not cost me anything. I e-mailed twice, the answer I received was this.

We Received your e-mail the thank yo, if we can be of any further assistance contact us. On the bottom of the e-mail was advertising for me to buy more products.......... I have heard nothing since, so that's how Best Buy deals with there customers after you by a new computer.

The geek squad person was also rude like we were dumb. ( Maybe we are with some comupter problems ) We asked to see his supervisor and he smiled and said, I'm the senior supervisor, and I just told you we won't do nothing for you unless you agree to pay for checking the hard drive. ( for a price ) He may think we are dumb, sure, my wife is a Doctor and I'm a Auditor for a 650,000 member union in Canada and the USA. Baaa.

Want to thank you for your input. I guess I was only thinking that best buy could of just opened the program and helped with the settings of explorer as a good public relations, since it as new. I only wish that Best buy Customer service would have answered me, the same as the the persons that gave me the info on the Rip Off site. ps. The Best Buy salesman was very helpfull and knowledgable and helped me with the downloading data from the old hard drive on an external drive. No regrets there. thanks all.

Have you checked your internet security settings?

These will (usually) reside in your browser. The higher or more restrictive your security setting, the higher the security threshold any site will have to meet for you to access it, and therefore your browser will deem more sites as being "unsafe" for you to visit. Also you may have a firewall. If not, get one. ZoneAlarm is an excellent firewall. I think you have a "settings" issue.

To everyone- If you purchase an item from Best Buy and it breaks during your return/exchange period: EXCHANGE IT! Do not allow them to "fix" it. If an item is defective, barring damage done by a customer, Best Buy has to exchange it for the exact same product and waive the restocking fee. Larry is right. Best Buy service plans do not cover ANY software issues, regardless of what the salesman might tell you. Read the whole plan before buying-it might not cover your intended use of the product.

I do not work for Best Buy, but I do work for a competitor of Best Buy so I see this kind of stuff happen from time to time. The fact is, software is not covered by retail stores. If the software (internet explorer) was preinstalled by the manufacturer, you must contact them to have them repair it under their warrenty. Best Buy was not in the wrong for refusing to fix your computer for free. They sale computers, they are not the ones who built it.
