Better Business Bureau of Greater Houston BBB, BBB of South Texas Collects fees from companies for satisfactory reports Houston, Texas
I had a problem with a roofing contractor who was completely unscrupulous. Rated "F" on Angie's list (I didn't find out until after work was done) I decided to report the contractor to the BBB of Greater Houston. Surprisingly, I found the contractor has an "A+" grade at the BBB and is "A member in good standing" (which means the contractor pays a fee to the BBB).
My report of bad actions on the part of the contractor were dismissed within hours of me filing it. I've since sued the contractor in Small Claims court and was awarded damages equalling the total cost of the contract. So I checked back with the BBB and still the contractor has an "A+" rating with no negative or open reports.
I've done quite a bit of research on the BBB and learned that these are simply franchise operations purchased by people who make money by collecting money from companies "members in good standing". Companies who pay the monthly/annual fees are rewarded by the BBB dismissing negative reports almost immediately, regardless of the company's negligence.
The BBB is a scam and fraud. This office in Houston is particularly egregious. If you're really interested in finding the ratings for a company, check out an objective service like Angie's List where company's don't pay fees or advertise. Sadly, BBB's are often used by older people who are more likely to think that these organizations are legitimate.

This comany is under investigation for credit card fraud and the bbb gives them an A+rating and will now allow anyone to file a compalint while they rip people off!!
