Sure, they have their policies. If you go to one of their stores and buy something from them you tell them that you are excited about their policies and that you love them.
Tell them that their policies suck by boycotting them - it is like a vote in politics...
their prices are not even that fantastic, especially if you consider that most of their junk will break within weeks or is already broken when you buy it. An item that breaks within 2 or 3 weeks and cannot be returned is extremely expensive because you will have to buy another one somewhere else and throw the "Big Lots" item into the garbage.

We recently purchased some chair cushions from Big Lots. We waited 60 days and tried to return them for a store credit and we did have the receipt. The fact that the cushions were still on the store shelves and we had the receipt negates any reason for not accepting them back. The personnel were terse and borderline rude. Draconian and rigid policies can and should kill a store that relies on consumers for their income. Wal-Mart is clearly the most successful retailer in the US and has set the standard for returns. It is ignorance, obstinance and arrogance that keep a store like Big Lots from adopting a more customer friendly return policy. We will no longer shop their store after many years of patronage and hope others will realize how customer-unfriendly they are and leave them to die as well.

You should have demanded a manager even though company policy says 30 days most managers will be a little nicer about it but you also have to understand they can get in trouble for accepting returns after 30 days the customer service people generally do the returns but they only have first say if there is ANY question what so ever the manager can override their decision.

Our Big Lots stores in TEXAS must be a LOT better run than the ones I have been reading about in The Rip-Off Report... But I think we may have savvier consumers too. And our stores don't sell many FOOD ITEMS. I don't workfor Big Lots BUT I know their price and their merchandise AND I check them out weekly and get GREAT stuff. Shopping to me is a lot like planning a battle or an expedition akin to war. If you have two working fingers with which to type with and a computer, there is NO excuse for setting out on any shopping mission unprepared! If you did not have access to the Internet, you wouldn't be reading what I am writing. You can't google the name of the store to find out if they carry the type of merchandise you want to buy and prices you think you can afford? I check out the places I want to shop by going online first. Sometimes, I will walk in and check them out. If I get a bad vibe, I don't shop there. Saves on gasoline, too. You might be able to sell on eBay or at a garage sale or a consignment store, like the other folks here suggested. One person's trash really IS another person's treasure. It's like the poem of the old violin. In the hands of an idiot, it sounded like trash but in the hands of an experienced musician, you have a treasure! Don't blame the store if you can't read their policy! Big Lots stores here have an exchange policy whereas if one product I get there doesn't work, then I can take it back and get another just like it. That's only fair and reasonable and it keeps the shoplifters and the pilferers from RIPPING OFF the store and selling them back their own merchandise. IF I like something enough to want to buy it, I don't think I will be taking it back anyway. LET THE BUYER/CONSUMER BEWARE! The information is out there. If YOU don't take advantage of it, TOUGH LUCK!

I have been shopping Big Lots for over 10 years and I am well aware that they are a CLOSE OUT RETAILER. With their prices so cheap I would not buy anything there such as a gift for a picky person, or a bunch of spoiled kids. Everytime I shop there I buy things like detergent, HBA items, household if I like it and socks. They are cheaper then anyone in my area except Family Dollar. I even got a DVD Burner there for 50.00 which works great and even if it only lasts a year, it paid for itself. I have also bought some of their rock bottom priced 10 k gold jewelry and when Eckerds Drugs went out of business I picked up 4 bottles of Giorgio perfume 15 oz for 20.00 retails at least 40.00 min anywhere else and for a smaller bottle.
