On May 21, 2003... our firstborn child graduated from high school. The school informed all parents that we would not be allowed to come near the stage to take photos (understandably so) and that all graduation photos would be taken by Bob Knight Photography.

I got online and pre-ordered a copy of my child walking across the stage and several posed photos of him holding his diploma. (this was taken immediatley as each graduate exited the stage).

When my proofs came in the mail, the photo on stage was fine but the posed photo had a dark shadow across one whole side of the picture. The fine print on the proof states "Light or Dark proofs will be corrected in final prints" so I call customer service and changed the order to one of him holding the diploma and the others of him accepting the diploma.

My photos came in the mail the other day and they only had the picture of him walking the stage so I tried calling the customer service # and was on hold for over 30 minutes. I hang up the phone and decide to e-mail them. Today I get an e-mail back

stating the following

<>

First of all, they DO have a photo of him holding his diploma, I know they do because they sent me a proof of it.

Second, this is the photo that they took after he walked the stage, they made him exit to his right to an area where they took his posed photo, so how can this be beyond their control?

I could see how the photo of a student walking the stage might be messed up because it is beyond their control but a POSED photo is NOT beyond their control.

Yes, this company refunded me for the pictures they did not send me but when a photography company takes the contract for an event and we must rely on them for these particular pictures because we are not allowed in that area to take them ourselves, I would expect that company to take extra care. And then to tell me they don't even have that photo, that it did not come out when they sent me a proof? I hope no other schools use this company again next year for this very special event!

#2UPDATE Employee

Tue, September 23, 2008

I am a current employee with Bob Knight Photo. I do realize that this post was originally made in 2003, but I wanted to comment anyway. I wanted to start out apologizing to this consumer for the problems that she had with both the Customer Service Department and Bob Knight Photo. We are constantly working to improve our service and continually update our representatives on the best way to assist our customers. We do understand how important these photos are to not only the graduate, but to their friends and family who helped to get the to graduation. If for any reason you, or someone you know, has not been satisfied with the service you received from this company please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected].

Bob Knight Photo had ignored all my e-mails and put all my calls on hold. I got attention though when I e-mailed them my rip-off report! Within a day of my sending them the link to my reports, I had an e-mail from one of their reps who wanted to rectify the situation. I explained all to her and sent her a scanned copy of the photo proof they claimed did not exsist. I told her that as far as I was concerned, I did not care if the picture was not perfect, I just wanted it as it was a very special event. Erin researched and found the photo and was kind enough to send me a free 8x10 and free smaller print for my personal use! I am satisfied with her responses and prompt attention. However: I still feel that the company should not be placed in charge of important events for the following reasons: #1) They claimed they have no control during an event such as a graduation. Their e-mail to me: (BECAUSE WE ARE AN EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY COMPANY, THINGS SUCH AS LIGHTING AND HOW THE PICTURE COMES OUT AT THAT CERTAIN MOMENT IS BEYOND OUR CONTROL.) I would have bought this story if the "action" photo of my son walking across the stage did not come out, but this was a POSED photo. As he walked off the stage, they directed him to a spot where they had set up their lights and screens and took a STILL PHOTO and then claimed they were not "in control" of the situation. #2)As you can see in the e-mail below, they LIED to me. They mistakenly sent me the photo proof but then claimed that it never came out. They HAD to admit the truth because I scanned and e-mailed Erin a copy of the photo that did not exsist. The e-mail I first got from Bob Knight Photo stated: (THE PICTURE OF YOUR SON HOLDING HIS DIPLOMA DID NOT COME OUT; WE ONLY HAVE THE PICTURE OF HIM RECIEVEING HIS DIPLOMA) They flat our lied about the picture!!! #3) They have no problem keeping in touch with the customer before the order is placed and paid for but They ignored my e-mails and placed me on hold for long periods of time, several times when I tried calling about the missing photo and paid NO attention to me until they found out I had filed the Rip-Off Report! The e-mail I received is below: Dear Jeanne, I got the photos back today. I spoke to my boss and she said that you shouldn't have received a proof. They weren't up to our standards and can't be corrected. I am going to mail you a complimentary 5x7 and 8x10. Please let me know the address you want them mailed to. Thank you. Erin Bob Knight Photo Customer Service 1-800-261-2576 To Erin, I say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. To Bob Knight Photo, I say: You have NO business being in charge of photo's at a special one time event. You were hired to preserve precious memories. We, the parents were kept at a distance so that we had to rely on you and pay you to preserve those memories. If you cannot handle a simple, standing still, posed photo, you should not be allowed to contract and bar us from taking our own close up photos. Thank you Rip-Off Report!

For some reason, the e-mail reply that Bob Knight sent me did not show up in my first report, the following is what was stated in the e-mail: BECAUSE WE ARE AN EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY COMPANY, THINGS SUCH AS LIGHTING AND HOW THE PICTURE COMES OUT AT THAT CERTAIN MOMENT IS BEYOND OUR CONTROL. UNFORTUNATELY, THE PICTURE OF YOUR SON HOLDING HIS DIPLOMA DID NOT COME OUT; WE ONLY HAVE THE PICTURE OF HIM RECIEVEING HIS DIPLOMA
