An unknown and unauthorized charge to my grandparent's credit card was found as they were reviewing their monthly statement. A charge from "BCC Chicago" for $137. They immediately contacted the credit card company concerning this charge.

After reviewing phone records for the past couple of months, no record of contact was found for this company in-bound or out-bound. Also there is no way any correspondence by mail could have happened because they refuse to send anything other than a paper check by mail.

Also, they have no oustanding debt to anyone. There are not any past due bills of any kind. All of their monthly bills (including credit card) are paid directly through the bank via auto pay.

When trying to contact BCC concerning this, the only thing we got was an ear full of attitude and hang-ups. Couldn't get a straight answer of who, what, when or why. Or from where the debt originated from. Not even a manager's name. Comment was "nothing to worry about, we got what we wanted".

Luckily, after the credit card company did their own investigation, the cards were cancelled and a new account was opened with new cards, and a big appology for the inconvenience. The charge was removed from my grandparent's account and they do not have to pay for this scam.

What a bunch of low life thieves. Having to steal from a couple of 87 year olds.

Thanks for checking me Robert. As most humans do, I was acting out of anger instead of intelligence. Especcially when it comes to my grandparents.

I think what got me the most was the comment made by the employee of BCC, "Nothing to worry about, we got what we needed.". No appology about any confussion or any assistance in why their card was used in paying for a debt. Or the fact that they refussed to let us speak with a manager and just hung up.

I do know the risks of ID theft that go on and I will definitely take your advice in checking their statements and reports for awhile. Also do that fraud watch thing with the credit agencies.

Thanks again Robert.

Perhaps you should take a step back and actually think about what is going on.

You are basically saying that a company that your grandparents had ZERO contact with some how according to you just out of the blue was able to guess your grandparents credit card number, the expiration date on the card and most likely the 3 digit security code on the back.  I think you would agree that is a pretty good trick.

Isn't it more likely that someone lied to them, giving them your grandparents numbers to get out of a debt?  Of course you are not going to get an answer when you call them, because according to you it was not your grandparents debt.  As for your CC company, they did exactly what they were supposed to do, investigate and reverse the charges if appropriate.  So nothing you have written here is earth shattering or some vast conspiracy by this company to just randomly charge peoples cards.

Now, while I am sure you will go to the end of time thinking that they somehow did all of this.  The reason I mention that is because if someone did use their card there is a possibility that they have more information and may try something worse.  So you may want to keep an even tighter eye on your grandparents statements and credit reports for a while.
