While using Bumble's service (swiping right or left seeking a match), the user is bombarded with advertisements.  One advertisement that appears frequently is a 2 Week Free Trial.

Let me explain how Bumble works: If you are not subscribed (meaning if you have a free account and you're just swiping left and right), you will receive matches that only last 24 hours.  If you decide to subscribe, you will have the opportunity to extend unlimited matches 48 hours.  You will also have access to everyone who has previously liked you (swiped right on you).

Most people, I presume, select the 8.99/week subscription.  This is common because you can quickly find a match, extend their time and then start talking to someone in a more convenient timeframe.

However, accepting this 8.99/week subscription will not preclude the user from being able to take advantage of the 2 week free trial which, after the trial ends, becomes a 49.99 price tag for 3 months.  This was the case for me.  Since using Bumble on and off for a few years, I have paid the weekly subscription numerous times.  I have also paid the monthly subscriptions more than once.

Recently, I have noticed a 2 Week Free Trial being promoted.  I took advantage of it a few weeks ago.  I canceled that subscription before it went into affect.  I later paid for a week subscription because I 'liked' the value Bumble offered.  Yes, it's expensive and ridiculous to pay that much for a week of swiping a few people here and there, but I 'thought' it was worth the price.

That was until I noticed.... hmmmm, that's cool!  I'm getting offered the 2 Week Free Trial again!  "That will balance out some of the high prices I've been paying all these years using Bumble"... or so I thought.  So, understanding what's involved I clicked, "2 Week Free Trial", accepted the terms (without carefully reading them) and immediately realized what I had done... I had been sold a promise through false adverstising.

I contacted Bumble immediately, explaining that I was unaware that I was being charged even after carefully reading the advertisement.  They said they are not able to issue the refund (that it's "out of their control") and that I should contact Apple.  So I followed their company instructions (even though they are the ones receiving the money from me--contacting Apple to get my refund)

You can follow these steps to seek a refund from Apple for these charges:

1. Go to https://expresslane.apple.com

2. Select "Billing & Subscriptions"

3. Select "Subscriptions & Purchases"

After following these instructions and explaining my case, an automatic response claimed my refund request was rejected because I did not qualify for one.

Moral of the story?  If it's a Bumble advertisement that says "2 Week Free Trial", IT ISN'T!

I contacted Bumble on facebook and they helped me to resolve my issue by responding:

If you use the following steps, they should grant a refund:

1. Go to https://apple.co/2qJEN4m

2. Select "Billing & Subscriptions"

3. Select "Subscriptions & Purchases"

4. Select "The topic is not listed"

5. In the text box write "n/a" and click "Continue"

6. Select the "Chat" option

7. When you're chatting with them say, "I've corresponded with Bumble and they've verified I'm eligible for a refund."

8. If they don't agree to a refund right away say, "Please escalate me to a Tier 2 representative or a manager, so that they can address this."

Also, to ensure you aren’t charged again, please follow these steps to cancel your subscription:

1. Go to Settings.

2. Tap your name at the top of the screen.

3. Tap iTunes & App Store.

4. Tap your Apple ID at the top of the screen.

5. Tap View Apple ID. You might need to sign in or use Touch ID.

6. Tap Subscriptions.

7. Tap the subscription that you want to manage (Bumble). (Note: If you don't see a Bumble subscription but are still being charged, make sure that you're signed in with the correct Apple ID.)

8. Use the options to manage your subscription.

9. Tap Cancel Subscription. (Note: When you cancel, your subscription will stop at the end of the current billing cycle.)

Apple issued the refund immediately after seeing the messages I have sent to bumble.  I would have liked to have resolved this thru Bumble, but at least they were there to respond to my concerns.

Thank you, Apple and Facebook!
