On April 24/2004 my father sold his junker van to C n R Automotive Repair. $50 was paid for the car, and the vehicle was signed over, license plates removed, and insurance cancled.

C n R company then towed the vehicle away.. and we forgot about it.

Sept 14/2004 a registered letter arrived to my parents, indicating that there was a 74 day storage charge on the vehicle, as well as a $100+ charge for the police impounding fee.

It "appears" that the vehicle was left on a road somewhere (possibly stripped) and then eventually towed.

We are very upset at C n R for dumping the vehicle, and as well for Myers towing for waiting 74 days to make attempts to locate the owners. Lastly Myers towing of Windsor stated in their letter that the car would be sold Sept 10/2004 (the letter sat at the post office for about 1 week as my parents were on vacation).

This perplexed me as the charge was staggering, and the notice before sale was VERY VERY short, and the impounding before notification was VERY VERY long.

I suspect we should also put a scam alert in about Myers Towing of Windsor Ontario.

Myers Towing Doing There Job - under contract with the local police department, we do not simply tow vehicles off the street

I would like to respond to the comment made. First, the company is under contract with the local police department, we do not simply tow vehicles off the street. We are requested to tow vehicles by the police and impound the vehicles. Second, when we tow the vehicles, we are not informed of the registered owner's name. According to the law, once a vehicle has been impounded for 60 days, we must contact the REGISTERED owner and inform him/her with the amounts owing and the date of sale. Unfortunately, abandoned vehicles in the compound is a frequent problem, and we cannot hold vehicles for a prolonged period of time. We regret when individuals who have sold vehicles are held responsible for this; however, legally they are the only individuals that can be held responsible unless proper documentation of the sale is available. We implore vehicle owners to MAKE SURE that the title is switched over when a vehicle is sold. As well, had the complainant contacted the company regarding his parents being on vacation, arrangements could have been made.
