I drove OTR like 2 years. Last place was this little 70-truck company outside Chicago. They didn't do much maintenance. Naturally, a DOT inspection found 2 brakes out of adjustment. The ASAs were never greased. After a long time, they simply freeze up and stop self-adjusting. It cost $125 for the ticket. I let it go. After all, I was making $1000 most weeks. Next settlement check (company driver), I see they hit me with a deduction for getting a ticket because of THEIR no-maintenance nonsense. I was so pissed, I ran home under dispatch. Dropped the truck in their drop yard. Didn't deliver the load. Left it for the local to do. I don't know what they put in my DAC. Something bad, I'm sure. Like I care. That was over a year ago. I haven't driven since. Still have my CDL. No plans to use it. Company driver is no deal. You make $6 to $10 an hour. Hundred hour weeks. And, lease is even worse. Fuel is $2.50 here. Somebody will haul the reefer loads. But, it won't be me. Probably not you either. If you wanna fight, start by getting your DAC. It's USIS now. It's free. Next, search for employment attorney.
