am posting this for all california cage owners /potential owners .

We have 3 california cages (1 was free with our amazon ) 2 were bought by us . The 1st one was bought at a store so we were able to see it touch it and feel it. we got it as it was smaller than the one he had and since he is never in his cage we got it. The second one was purchased online for our blue crown conure (he is more cage bound his choice the doors are open pretty much all day unless we go out )

That is where the big problems develop we had ordered this cage, it took about 2 weeks to come cross country. We got it and it was put together very sloppy. the grates were not fit properly. the trays were all dinged up and bent, and the lock keys were missing. we called and spoke to the owner Marko gallardo (jerk and you will soon understand why I say this). We explained that the grates were not fit the trays were all dented up and bent. he "demanded " pictures to which we said we would gladly do.

So we set up to do pictures of the "defective" parts . We also let Marko know of the dish disaster he said he would ship new ones out right away. they were originally to be sent with the cage but he "forgot". needless to say they putzed around for a few days and then emailed us back saying that they would NOT ship out the new parts for the cage that we had to buy them !

But that the order for the dishes were in and being processed. Well time went on and we did not need the dishes badly at that point as they were more of the "treat " cup for our guys, well it kinda slipped my mind till our new baby came to us. in may of this year, we were looking for them to see if I had put them away and realized that we never got them in the first place. so I dropped them an email and it was returned that the were out of stock. no problem this stuff happens.

they told me 2 weeks ago that they would ship the following week. ok that week came and went I emailed them again. to ask for a shipping # no response. I have emailed them several times. they do read them as we have the "receipt " when opened on our email. But they do not respond.

Now back to the grates and trays after much fighting over it they told us it was not a warranty issue and they would not replace them. then they said they would but we had to pay an additional 50 dollars in shipping for what when we paid nearly 150 for the original shipping of the cage. they have slapped us so many time that this is the LAST time that I will buy one of their cages our next ones will be stainless from a different company.

We have not received the treatment we should for such a large purchase and will not go back to them for cages in the future. There is also a case where they advertise that there cages are less than 10 ppm of zinc in the powder coating but when some ones bird had issues and it was tested it came back at 26 pam when they were contacted with the independent lab reports and ask to replace the cage that was less than a year old under warranty Marko said you will have to buy one. a group got together and helped her get a stainless cage for her fid.

So use due discretion when purchasing from this con artist. it use to be they were top of the line I think that time has past!

posted on multi boards and now here as an update.

I have also emailed them but do not expect a favored response .

here is the email

Marko

Why are you refusing to send me a tracking # for the dishes you promised us ? I have already alerted many different bird communities of your lack of customer service (many have responded and not to your favor and also agree with us about your lack of customer service ). If you continue to have this kind of poor customer service I will be forced to expand my quest let others know about your company's shoddy customer service. You promised them to be replaced yet you refuse to email us back with any info on the tracking # or status, you said they were "out" of stock it has been nearly 3 weeks since you ask for my mailing addy and I have yet to see them. You told me they would be in the following week yet I still do NOT have replacements . I can NOT in good faith recommend your company or its cages. Your lack of responsiveness to a long standing customer is lacking! I have received multiple emails from others that feel the same way. If you continue to treat your customers with this attitude you will quickly give your company a bigger black eye than it already has. It takes years to build a reputation as a company and only moments to destroy it. Think about it your company was once a leader in avian cages now your company is the leader of poor customer relations! I know you got my emails but you refuse to reply and that takes all of a few seconds to do that, thats ok I understand, as do the others that have heard this, as it has been posted on some very large avian sites. No worries the internet makes the world alot smaller thus I am able to reach potentially millions of viewers a day, think about it if I can prevent one person from buying a cage from you I have damaged your reputation , actually you have damaged your reputation, I just relayed it!

Think about it are 2 crocks under warranty worth a very angery customer? And lost sales?

They also sell thier feed dishes for thier cages as brand name but bait and switch, with thier cheeper made in Mexico junk. Thier dishes have lead and zinc in them which is toxic to birds.

They will tell you that thier dishes are a certin top of the line brand but then when you contact the mfgr they tell you how it is, on occassion they will place the name brand in thier cage but most times it is cal brand that is made in mexico, when they break they try to send you to a diffrent mfg to get them under warranty but they are not that brand so they will not honor it and rightly so. When called on it cal cages will promise to send them then NOT send any thing leaving the consumer to sit with nothing

Lead Poisoning

#2Consumer Comment

Mon, October 18, 2010

My Quaker Parrot died this morning at 16 years of age. This is middle age for a Quaker. The cause of death was lead poisoning.

He has been housed in a California cage since the day I bought him as a baby. I keep him in a closed room where he has no access to metal objects. All of his toys contain no metal. My concern is that he was poisoned by the ceramic food and water dishes. I am also concerned that the 16+ year old paint on the cage was beginning to degrade perhaps exposing poisonous metal.

I can't be sure it was the cage but I urge others who have California cages to inspect them thoroughly.  Better to be proactive than sorry (and guilt ridden) as I am.
