I had previously been contacted by CAMCO about a 14 year old loan that had been paid. Since I found this website, I haven't really done anything but throw away the zillions of letters. I haven't heard back from them, and all of a sudden I've recieved a letter from Riddle & Associates, P.C., from Sandy, Utah. It says that their law firm has been retained to collect from me. Is this legit? Thanks for any advice.

I also started receiving calls from Riddle & Associates. They randomly call people they files on without verifing names against phone directories or other widely available databases in hopes of getting somebody to pay. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS UNDER THE FAIR DEBT COLLECTION ACT!! Never pay a debt you do not owe! Research uncovers Riddle & Associates have been ordered to pay millions of dollars in wrongfully collected debts back to consumers. Not just in one state, but in several. If everybody who sees this files a complaint with the governing bodies I listed below, they WILL be shut down for good. I filed a complaint with the Utah Attorney General and the Utah State Bar. Their information is below. Utah State Bar Consumer Assistance Program 645 South 200 East Salt Lake City, UT 84111 Utah Attorney General State Capitol, RM 236 Salt Lake City, UT 84114-0810 You will need Riddle & Associates information....... Check out the Riddle & Associates website at: www.recovery-usa.com Makes interesting reading. I really liked the services page. I think CAMCO is taking a real beating and their last ditch hope is to farm out the work to another pitchman. Really doesn't matter, SOL is SOL and I think CAMCO is basically 'SOL'. The letters may sound more threatening coming from attorneys but if they actually try litigating on 'affadavits' they'll end up taking the beating. Best advice: The laws haven't changed in Utah. Treat them the same as CAMCO. Don't be intimidated by law firm lingo. Here's the URL for the Consumer Protection unit of the Utah Attorney General: http://www.commerce.utah.gov/dcp/enforcement/statute.html I'd sure like to see scanned copies of any of their correspondence (blanking out any personal info, of course).
