After our second bichon frise died at age 13, I shopped for a new bichon frise puppy and elected to purchase an alleged full blooded bichon frise from Caney Fork Kennels/Caney Fork Bichon. After approximately 2 weeks with the puppy, my nearly 20 years of experience around bichon frises indicated to me that our new puppy was not a full blooded bichon frise.
For the first time ever I elected to order a DNA test on the new puppy. I have owned dogs for fifty years and have never requested a DNA test. The DNA test came back indicating that our puppy was a 50-50 mix of bichon frise and HAVANESE. I delivered the DNA test to the owner of the kennel, Anita Phillips, and she agreed to enter into a settlement with us and pay us our money back in part. However, she delivered a ridiculous release for us to sign which, among other things, would have quieted us and prevented us from telling the world about this rip off artist.
After several months we have certainly fallen in love with our mixed breed mutt, but we know that being in our 60's now this will probably be our last dog and it is not at all the dog that we had hoped to take us out. Please do not purchase puppies from this kennel. If you decide to do so get a DNA test first and know what you are getting.
I would not buy any dog from this kennel without first obtaining a DNA test to ensure that you are getting the dog that you are told you are getting. The kennel’s breeding stock is defective.
Caney Fork Kennels took the position that a 50/50 mix still complies with the AKC breed standard for a bichon frise. That is ridiculous and even if accurate, if you are told you are buying a full blooded bichon frise it should not be 50% bichon frise and 50% HAVANESE regardless of the proprietary and ridiculous positions taken by the AKC and Caney Fork Kennels. We are entitled to get what we pay for.

I'm sorry for what happened but have to disagree that Anita Philips is a puppy mill breeder or dishonest.Mistakes can happen mayb that's what occurred.I don't know? But what I do know is we bought a beautiful Bichon Frise boy Oodle from Anita Phillips in Nov 2001. Thanksgiving day and she was so kind she drove all the way from Tn to Atlanta Ga to bring our pup to us at no extra cost. And it is April 28 2017 almost 16yrs later and Oodle our beautiful full breed Bichon Frise is sitting right here by my side happy healthy active little boy at almost 16 yrs old. He's a definite full bred from an EXCELLENT breeder Carney Fork Anita Philippe.Oodle was totally socialized perfectly.potty trained when we got him at 3 months old.He was never any problem easily to train smart as can be and the most compassionate loving kind little dog. Because of the well bred quality of our Bichon from this breeder we have had minimal medical costs and except the normal routine exams shots heartworm blood work dental etc we do for him. He's been healthy and at. 15 almost 16 he's still healthy and can out run dogs much younger than him. Even if he had not been full bred I'd love him the same and the breeder is no way a puppy mill breeder to have quality dog like Oodle. I saw her other pups as well and could tell they where full breed Bichon s. I would get another Bichon from Anita Phillips in a second. In fact we just lost our 15 yr oldSheltie who grew up together with Oodle our Bichon and are debating weather to get another Sheltie or to contact Anita Phillips to get another Bichon pup as a companion for Oodle and second dog. If I do decide on another Bichon vs Sheltie I wouldn't go to anyone else except Anita Phillips and I live in Fla now much further but it would be worth the trip because of the quality pups she breeds. Maybe you got a Bichon havenesse mix by mistake but if so I understand that's not what you asked for but it doesn't mean because this happened that Carney Fork is a puppy mill. I know this to be untrue. No way would I have the high quality Bichon Frise we do if this we're a puppy mill. Thanks to this excellent breeder we've had 15 yrs and 7 months Of pure joy love affection and dedication with our Bichon Oodle and he's still here loving US and us loving him every second. Even quality show breeders have asked me why don't I show Oodle our Bichon and they were shocked when I told them he isn't a show dog. Cuz he looks like the perfect show dog and everything about him is perfect for the breed. Thank you Anita Phillips for the WONDERFUL beautiful little Angel you brought into our lives almost 16 yrs ago.Oodle Doodle our beautiful full bred Bichon Frise.

I bought a havanese puppy from Anita a few years ago and my dog has had several health issues. When I tried talking to Anita about it she was very rude and started talking about her lawyer. I knew right then that she was used to phone calls like mine. I had fallen in love with my dog so I let it go. Whenever anyone asks about my dog and where I got her I make sure they don't get a dog from Caney Fork Kennels. A friend of mine bought a havanese from Anita without hearing my warning and her dog is way larger than breed standard. When we started comparing notes we learned how both our havanese puppies were not socialized in the least before purchase. My dog would duck down and shiver to avoid being petted forthe first few days. Our dogs also smelled like feces at pickup. The dogs are nothing more than a big payday for Anita. Please don't support her puppymill.
