Capital One ripoff - Charging an annual fee on an account that is not activated City Of Industry California
After applying for and receiving a Capital One card, I noticed there was a $29.00 annual fee, so I did not call the 1-800 number to activate the account. None-the-less, I received a bill for the $29.00 annual fee. I called Capital One to complain and was told that I owed the fee whether I had activated the card or not. The representative told me that Capital One considers the account open when they issue the card and they therefore have the right to charge for the annual fee.
Why then do we have to call the silly number to "activate the account" if it's already active when we get it. I was also told this information is clearly stated in the card terms and conditions. I could not find any reference to this in my paperwork. After talking to three higher level supervisors, I was told the $29.00 would be removed amd I would receive written verification of such. This is yet to be seen.
