Purchased a Carfax "Unlimited Reports" in January 2015. After running 5 reports a message appeared stating I have reached my limit for running VIN reports.
BUYER BEWARE: CARFAX NO LONGER OFFERS ANY FORM OF UNLIMITED VIN SEARCH OPTION TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC!!!
Although Carfax claims to offer unlimited car tag lookups, anyone can change the car tag or photoshop a different tag or place a dealer's tag on a vehicle which renders this type of search virtually worthless.
A bit more research indicates Carfax reports are increasingly found to contain errors--including falsified title and VIN information--which seems to indicate the company is becoming a bit sloppy.
As a solution I googled "Most reliable VIN Search sites" and found Autocheck.com. They also claim unlimited VIN searches for 1 month. I tried them and ran over 30 VIN numbers successfully. Unlike Carfax, Autocheck gives you your money's worth.
Stay away from "carfaux".

Apparently they're still running this same scam. $69.99 for "unlimited" reports only works if a tag is reported to carfax, which never is.

I fell for the same decitful advertising. The company markets unlimited reports, but the reports only apply for licence plate searches, which are almost usless. They are a scam because the industry standard is unlimit VIN reports, which everyone automaticaly assumes before purchase. There are many competitiors that offer real unlimited reports.
