To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing in concern about a recent cruise I took. My mother, father, boyfriend and I were on Carnival Cruise Ship Holiday from 27 December 2007 to 31 December 2007 traveling to Cozumel, Mexico. I have been on a Carnival cruise before with great satisfaction but this one was quite the disappointment.

On the second night of sailing out there were apparently two medical emergencies. We later learned the ship turned around and headed back to port to evacuate the injured off the ship. This turnaround caused much loss of miles and time. The whole next day at sea was spent traveling extremely fast, to catch up, quoted by our stateroom personnel causing my loved ones and I seasickness (something I did not experience on my first cruise).

We were expected to arrive in Cozumel, Mexico at 8:00 a.m. on the third day but upon waking we were informed over the loudspeaker of the emergency evacuation as well as our delay. We were first told we would arrive at 11:00 a.m., then 1:00 p.m., and finally we exited the ship around 4:30 p.m. Our plans for Mexico included spending the day basking in the sun on the beach followed by an early authentic meal before getting back on the ship. Due to the delay we had enough time to go to the beach, see the sunset, and grab an extremely quick bite to eat before we had to re-board. We didnt even have time to get a souvenir.

Although I respect the quick emergency action taken by the Captain and the crew and am appreciative that if it were my loved one, they would do the same, I have to be slightly selfish and ask, what about us? What about our day in Cozumel, Mexico, that was completely ruined? Carnival has yet to make any effort in making this trip up to us. A simple apology is not enough.

You see, my boyfriend and I are in the Army in preparation for deployment to Afghanistan in February. My boyfriend has never been outside of the United States and never seen the ocean before. This cruise was my Christmas gift to him to celebrate the little time we have left together and experience a cruise before putting our fate in the militarys hands. It was our last opportunity to take a vacation and spend the time together, enjoying a beautiful cruise and a relaxing day in Mexico.

Now granted, we made for a good time despite the circumstances, but I feel our trip was completely ruined, a trip that I may never, heaven forbid, have the opportunity to make up.

As if the disappointment of the cruise isnt enough, I am also highly dissatisfied with the crew on board. We felt very unwelcome. The staff acted as if we were a bother to them, they didnt want to be there, and they didnt want us to be there either. I understand the personnel on this ship travel year round and have very little time to themselves. I myself applied for an opportunity on the staff before joining the military.

But I also believe in customer service. We did not experience the kind of service that I expect from a Carnival Cruise line ship. It was extremely hard to get any questions answered and it seemed even the crew was in a constant state of confusion. We once ordered room service waiting an hour and forty-five minutes for its arrival (two cokes and cookies). The bar staff seemed irritated with us each time we ordered a drink if we could even get the attention of one. The whole staff in general was rude and produced selfish service rather than customer service.

I am usually not one to complain in this manner but given all the above disappointments and the carelessness of the staff, I feel it necessary. I hope you can understand my devastation with this trip and that you will respond expediently to these matters.

Thank you

You come off as very selfish

Your comments come off as very selfish. so you were delayed 7 hours on a 7 day trip? Nowhere in the contract you sign when buy a cruise says that the intinary is set in stone and I believe that it actually says it may chage due to weather or unseen circumstances Gee guess what thats what happen. And how exactly does this delay RUIIN your WHOLE crusie? You have six other days ( possible 5) to enjoy. Your not seperated from your love ones and still spent time with them. Im sorry if there was a medical emergency that just so happen to incovience you but hey thats life. And why wouldnt an apology surfice? what were you looking for a FREE Cruise? Your difficult behavior is the true problem here not Carnival. As far as the crew treating you badly I can not say I wasnt there and you dont exactly go into details besides the Room service incident.

I felt I need to respond. Your trip seemed to turn for the worse shortly after you started. I am by no means saying the staff did not miss treat you. I will say I have been on a few of carnivals larger ships and while the Holiday is almost there oldest and definatly their smallest. My husband and I have always been amazed at the friendliness of the staff That is why from now on we will only cruise on the Holiday. As we will 2/2/2008. Maybe the staff has changed since 9/2007. The staff may have been ill with you because others had the same veiws and they were tring to do the best they could. Many of the dancers my husband I have spoken to also work camp carnival and other duties on the ship because of the ships size. It's no different than a road trip and you get a flat. Just Thank god it wasnt your family members and no one was hurt. You say you want more than an I'm sorry what do you want exactly. Your trip itself wasnt cut short or canceled. There are many things to do on the ship including a huge veiw of the ocean.

I doubt seriously whether the medical emergency caused a 7 hour delay in arriving at Cozumel on the third day. What happened on the rest of the trip? Was the only port Cozumel? In any event, the medical emergency was serious enough so that the ship went back to port and I'm glad that the Captain felt that it was more important than your good time. I fully agree with him and you may attach some importance to a MEDEVAC if it happens to you or a fellow soldier in the Middle East. You should be the one apologizing to the readers of ROR for even posting this complaint. If you didn't like the service that's one thing, but griping about the medical evacuation and how it spoiled your cruise was exceedingly selfish.
