Complaint Review: Carolyn Coker Ross - Denver Colorado

 This individual is licensed by the DEA to prescribe a medication called suboxone for people who are stuggling with opiate and/or pain killer addiction. Unfortunetly this doctor is completely abusing her priviledges when prescribing this drug. When i intitially called to schedule an appointment with her i did a lot of research about this drug online. I found out this this drug is typically used to help ease the intitial withdrawl of opiates but a lot of doctors have found a way to use this drug as residual income by prescribing this to people for months and sometimes years. The drug is a very strong opiate itself so you are just trading one addiction for another.

This doctor asked me on the phone how much i was spending on the pain pills and than told me that she was alot cheaper. This sounded a little strange because it's something that a drug dealer would say. My goal was to stop using pain killers and not make my situation worse by taking a much stronger drug than i was before. She refused to answer any of my questions over the phone and said that i should just come in.

During my appt. she told me that this drug was very easy to stop using which is a lie. It is the worst drug to come off of due to the length of time that it stays in your system. This doctor knows this but yet lies to people because she doesnt respect any of her clients. Her goal is to get you hooked on this drug so she can collect her $150 per month for the rest of your life. Suboxone is primarily used by people that IV heroin because it prevents abuse of other narcotics through IV. Well most people don't IV pain killers and therefore should not be treated the same way. 

There is a huge difference between someone who is taking percocet for 2 years and someone who is an IV heroin user for 10 years. Treating people the same way is wrong and a lot of people are being hurt instead of being helped.

This doctor was very pushy and when i started asking her questions she said that i was getting too technical. Woah you are a doctor, correct? Arent you supposed to be technical. After 20 minutes she was ready to push me out the door. I don't think she likes informed, educated clients.

She prescribed this drug to me without performing any kind of drug test. Meaning i could have been a drug dealer who is looking to sell this drug on the streets and she was more than happy to prescribe it to me as long as she got her money! I quickly tapered off this drug within a 3 week period and have moved on with my life since then. Would you give an alcoholic more alcohol? Would you give a cocain addict more cocain? So why would you give an opiate addict more opiates? Makes no sense. 

Also, Dr Carolyn Coker does NOT accept insurance. Why? Because the insurance companies do not pay as much and they will only provide insurance for a limited amount of time. This doctor charges $250 for the first appt. and then another $150 a few days later for the first script. What other real doctors charge that much? Maybe cancer treatment. Bottom line is this individual is exploiting folks that are actually coming to her for help. If you are a current patient of hers i suggest you find another doctor who will help you get off this stuff.

This drug should only be used as a last resort and should never be taken for more than 30 days because otherwise you will be on it for a very long time and be in a much worse situation then you were in before.

There are many options that someone has if they want to stop abusing pain killers. If you do some research on the internet you will find a lot of help. Avoid this so called suboxone doctor because she is just a legal drug dealer. She gets paid by the suboxone company and also gets kick backs from the pharmacy that she refers you to. The impression that i got from her was no better than a car salesman. If you are considering utilizing this drug please do your own reasearch online and make your own decision. The doctor should never tell you what to do or how to do it, they work for you.
