I recently purchased CatchCheat (spyware). The product came with a four-line text file for installation instructions providing no information at all on how to install or configure. Then to my utter surprise and dismay the text file said Virus protection had to be turned-off, rendering this program worthless to anyone attempting to use it.

The CatchCheat program is not only caught by virus protection, even a Yahoo e-mail address will kill it, Some Kind of Spyware. I e-mailed them at their support e-maill address several times and never once received a reply. I also used another e-mail address supplied in the order confirmation and had the same results. I then requested the return of my funds, but of course I did not receive a reply, not even a We will not give you your money back.

I have continued to send e-mails to their support address even though I know I will not be getting an answer, mostly for my own satisfaction. Do not buy this product. It doesnt Work, has no Documentation, no Support is provided and you will never see your money again.

Rob, I do have a problem with the use of spyware by anyone for any reason. As a consumer I feel that I have paid for my computer, I pay for my Internet connection and should be allowed my privacy. You pay rent or a mortgage on your home; would you like me to come and tell you that I am going to put a camera in your abode for the sake of profiling what products you use and when you come and go? And furthermore I am going to sell your name and address to a myriad of advertisers so that they can innundate you with unwanted sales pitches to make you miserable long after I'm gone! And that I am doing it because I can, its profitable to me and there is nothing you can do about it! While I am at your home,I intend to use your gas to stay warm, eat your food to stay alive, and otherwise avail myself of all you have to offer in the way of comforts and entertainment. What is the benefit to YOU here, poor hard-working guy paying the mortgage and buying the food? NONE at all. I am using your resources as well as making a tidy sum for myself while you just have to like it. Something about this scenario is going to make you very angry before it is played out unless you are a true saint. It is wrong for any other entity to use my resources for said entities profit. If the persons or companies spying on me would buy my computer and pay my access fees, I would have no moral or ethical issues at all. Let 'em watch, as long as they are footing the bill or at least returning a bit of the profit they are getting by using MY name and email address. Otherwise, it is stealing, plain and simple. Just my take on the issue. Evidently, you feel that there are reasons justifying the use of spyware programs. You might be right, but why are they such closely guarded secrets? Seems like someone would want to tell us all about it, since spyware has a pretty bad rep. My personal experience with it was very distasteful, and I have only that to base my opinion on. I do want to offer a sincere apology for my hot-headed attack on your character. I was way out of line and had no right to say what I said. Mea culpa! I do hope you get your product issue resolved. I am actually afraid to visit the CatchCheat website; they are a spyware vendor. Hello, what are the odds that they might put a little "cookie" on my computer. Pretty high, I'd say! Just as I am against tracking folks on the Web (at least until someone convinces me that there is a legitimate reason for shadowing me), I am just as against unscrupulous vendors who promise the world knowing that they cannot deliver and then refuse to try to resolve anything. That's WRONG! That's stealing; they used your resources (money)for their profit. Makes a body angry, doesn't it?

Ethical and Moral dilemmas

Robin, I believe my letter was very clear as I mentioned the word Spyware at least twice. If you had done your homework, such as visiting the CatchCheat Web Site you would have known exactly what type of software I was working with. As the Director of a large Network Security firm I am very aware of products such as AdAware and other competing products such as SPYBOT, which I believe is a much better program than AdAware due to the weekly updates. As a Security Architect I am fully cognizant of the Ethical and Moral dilemmas that SPYWARE and these types of programs create. There are many Ethical uses and some that are not, despite your personal opinion on the subject. You sound like an intelligent person so I am very surprised that you used to forum to flame me and display your ignorance on this subject, try using Discussion groups for this. I wrote this Rip-Off report to keep anyone that has a need to use SPYWARE from buying this program CatchCheat and ending up with a piece of software that does not work as advertised.

Rob, Your letter is unclear as to what type of program you were purchasing: are you trying to purchase protection from spyware or trying to place spyware on someone else's computer? If you are seeking protection from spyware, may I recommend AdAware available as a free download from lavasoft. It does not rquire you to disable your virus protection and does an excellent job of catching spies, trojans , bots and all the other baddies we are trying to avoid. If you are trying to place spyware on someone else's computer; shame on you! You are the scum of the earth and the very reason I downloaded and eventually purchased (voluntarily) AdAware. If it was your purpose to spy on someone else I am glad you got taken; you deserved what you got!
