Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I was hired as a contract worker by a third party at the Culinary Academy of SF, which is owned and operated by CEC. In my 10 + years of experience in office administration and client support I required no training. I was up and running my first day on the assignment. My complaint is *not with the local staff of CCA nor is it with the staffing agency who placed me.

After several weeks on the assignment and excellent feedback from staff to my direct report and to my agency, I was released from the assignment at the directive of CEC executives who were on site.

I received a call from my staffing manager at the end of my last work day, who was also suprised at this turn of events. The rhetoric she was given and which was in turn passed onto me, was that I wasn't "the right fit".

The truth was, I was not the right *color or image that the CEC executives want to project. Although a large percentage of students enrolled in the CCA program are minorities. CEC wants a white face on the front desk, such as my co-worker's. Although I was training *him on tips and tricks in formatting documents, supressing headers in emails, and using tools and options in Outlook.

This was nothing more than subversive racism by releasing me from an assignment I was overqualified for in the first place. There was no insubordinate action on my part and all assigned work given to me was completed beyond expectation. Given the utterly unprofessional manner with which I was taken off the job, I had to return to the CCA office to collect my personal items. A young white woman had replaced me within 24 hours.

I am a Black American with an accredited college art degree. I speak 4 languages, including fluent Spanish. The only disdain and ill-manner I encountered on this assignment was from the CEC execs on site. I have since learned my direct report protested having me taken off the assignment, but had to acquiese to corporate dictate.

The irony is that CEC recruits many students of color into the CCA program. These students are a revenue generator of federal tuition subsidies paid directly to the school and hence contribute to the corporation's profit. Eventhough these young people are from my *own community and I am a reflection of them, I am *not a reflection of CEC, it's executives and certainly not it's board members.

I've since researched filing a complaint with the EEOC, but legally I can not take action. I was legally employed by the staffing agency who placed me, not by CCA or it's parent company CEC.

This corporation's practices, policies, and questionable business ethics (you can find CEC's quarterly report online) are disturbing to me. I would never sponsor, support, or reccomend this organization or it's schools to anyone, whether for employment or education.
